摘要: Raisins that have been formed by field drying of grapes and that have been exposed to rain during the drying process that has caused solids, particularly sand, to become embedded in the surface folds of the raisins, are cleaned of such embedded solids by spraying with a mixture of pressurized air and water applied through an atomizing nozzle, which achieves both washing and drying of the raisins. The same process is applicable to other agricultural products with wrinkled skins, and produces unusually effective results.

摘要: Apparatus for forming a yarn package wherein the yarn package includes a plurality of axially stacked revolutions of yarn with each revolution formed to include a plurality of sinuous shaped wave patterns in each revolution, and wherein the sinuous pattern of adjacent revolutions are angularly offset relative to each other to form a yarn package having high porosity in the package to permit the ready flow of yarn treatment material therethrough. The yarn package forming apparatus includes a frame support means having a power driven turntable, with a pressure plate non-rotatably supported thereabove for vertical translating movement, and wherein the yarn package is formed between the rotatable turntable and the pressure plate. The yarn packaging apparatus is provided with a variable speed radially reciprocating yarn guide means for feeding the yarn through a radial slot in the pressure plate to the turntable for forming revolutions of yarn having the sinuous pattern, with each revolution having an adjusted length of yarn. The variable speed radially reciprocating means is provided with a programable speed adjustment mechanism which is operated at a number of independent speeds for a series of revolutions, with the sequence of rotational speed being repeated after a predetermined number of revolutions of the turntable. A yarn package is formed by threading a length of yarn through the yarn guide means and slot, engaging an end of the yarn with the rotary turntable and effecting rotation of the turntable to form the stacked revolutions of yarn which will in turn force the pressure plate upward as the yarn package is formed. An open mesh yarn bag is supported on the turntable with the bag being constructed of net material which will permit ready impregnation of a dye throughout the yarn package.

摘要: Ammonia is added to combined aqueous scrubbing solutions containing an organic base-sulfuric acid reaction product, preferably an aromatic amine-sulfuric acid reaction product, an organic base-sulfurous acid reaction product, preferably an aromatic amine-sulfurous acid reaction product, and water in one or more separating zones located exteriorly of an absorption tower. The combined aqueous scrubbing solutions are obtained from sulfurous acid and sulfuric acid solution scrubbing sections of the absorption tower wherein an organic base, preferably an aromatic amine, is utilized as absorbent in a lower absorber section of the tower to remove SO.sub.2 from a SO.sub.2 -containing gas mixture, followed by scrubbing the SO.sub.2 -depleted, aromatic amine-enriched gas from the absorber section first with sulfurous acid solution in the sulfurous acid scrubbing section of the tower to remove most of the gaseous aromatic amine therefrom and then with dilute sulfuric acid solution in the sulfuric acid scrubbing section of the tower, to remove a major portion of the residual gaseous aromatic amine from the gas. Liquid sulfuric acid solution containing a relatively high concentration of aromatic amine-sulfuric acid reaction product is withdrawn from the lowermost tray in a preferred tray-equipped tower scrubbing section, and a major portion, i.e. more than 50%, of this withdrawn sulfuric solution is passed back to and introduced preferably onto the fourth or third tray from the top of the tray-equipped scrubbing section. Liquid sulfuric acid solution containing a relatively low concentration of aromatic amine-sulfuric acid reaction product is also withdrawn from preferably the second tray or third tray from the top of this section when the introduction of the returned acid solution is onto respectively the third tray or fourth tray from the top of the section, and such withdrawn acid solution having the relatively low concentration of aromatic amine-sulfuric acid reaction product is returned and introduced onto the top tray of this sulfuric acid scrubbing section. The sulfur dioxide is stripped from the pregnant aromatic amine absorbent from the absorbing section in the stripping section of a stripping tower. The ammonia treatment of the combined aqueous scrubbing solutions in the external separating zone results in release of the aromatic amine from the aromatic amine-sulfuric acid reaction product by reaction of the ammonia with the aromatic amine-sulfuric acid reaction product and also in the formation of ammonium sulfate. Aqueous liquid solution containing the ammonium sulfate and aromatic aminesulfurous acid reaction product is withdrawn from a lower layer thereof, which is beneath an upper layer of released aromatic amine, in the separating zone and passed to the regenerator section of a stripping tower. Aromatic amine vapor and SO.sub.2 gas are liberated in the regenerator section and a considerable quantity of steam is generated therein. Aqueous solution containing ammonium sulfate is withdrawn from the lower portion of the regenerator section and, after bleeding off only a small portion of this aqueous solution, is passed, after cooling, into the upper portion of the sulfurous acid scrubbing section of the absorption tower and introduced therein. SO.sub.2 gas, obtained in the process, is supplied into the lower portion of this sulfurous acid scrubbing section and is dissolved in water of the introduced aqueous ammonium sulfate solution to form sulfurous acid.In another embodiment, the effluent gas from the sulfuric acid scrubbing section of the tower is scrubbed in alkali metal carbonate scrubbing section of the tower with a liquid alkali metal carbonate solution, e.g. a dilute aqueous sodium carbonate solution.

摘要: An ammonia-based double-alkali process for removing sulfur oxides from stack gases. In this process, usually continuous, stack gases are contacted with an aqueous wash liquid containing ammonium sulfite as a sulfur oxide reactive compound to form a spent absorbent liquor containing bisulfite, sulfite and sulfate salts of ammonia. A portion of the reactive compound is regenerated by reacting the spent scrubbing liquor with a source of calcium ions, usually limestone. During the regeneration, calcium sulfite solids are precipitated as a by-product, any gypsum solids precipitation during the process being tolerated for a time insufficient to degrade substantially process performance. The resultant calcium solids are separated from the regenerated liquor which is returned for further contact with the stack gases, a portion of these solids being recycled to the regeneration stage. The process is preferably regulated by monitoring and controlling of the calcium concentration of the regenerated liquor, upset conditions being corrected by the addition of make-up ammonia during regeneration of the liquor.

摘要: Printed circuits which reside on three dimensional surfaces are disclosed. Using a first technique, a three dimensional surface is formed on a substrate having a high melting point or permitting a high degree of infrared energy transmittance. The surface contains a layer of metalization maintained at a depth of less than two microns. An infrared laser then moves around the surface and selectively vaporizes metalization leaving a desired printed circuit pattern. The remaining metalization is plated to a useable depth. Using a second technique, a fiber optic bundle is machined on one end to mate with the three dimensional surface. The three dimensional surface, metalized and coated with photo resist, resides in intimate contact with this first end. A second end of the cable is flat and resides in intimate contact with two dimensional master photo artwork. A pattern is exposed on the photoresist through the fiber optic bundle, and the metalization is etched using conventional techniques.

摘要: A diaphragm pump of the type having a housing forming a pump chamber, a diaphragm attached to an outer periphery thereof to the housing within the chamber, inlet and outlet valves communicating with the chamber, and a motor having an eccentrically rotating driveshaft, in which a connecting rod is attached to the diaphragm and includes a substantially flat portion which extends through slots formed in the housing, and an aperture which receives the drive shaft of the motor and is sized to form a slip fit therewith. The slots are shaped to slidably receive the flat portion of the rod and constrain its motion, when displaced by rotation of the drive shaft, to a single plane which is perpendicular to a rotational axis of the drive shaft, thereby eliminating the transmission of thrust and torsional loads between the rod and drive shaft so that the motor bearing life is increased.

摘要: A resistive element is formed on a printed circuit board using only printed circuit board fabrication techniques. A substrate having a bi-metallic cladding on one side of the substrate and a conductive metallic cladding on an opposing side of the substrate is used. A predetermined trace pattern is formed in the metallic cladding. Resistive elements are formed in the bi-metallic cladding opposing their desired locations in the trace pattern. The bi-metallic cladding consists of a resistive layer between the substrate and a second conductive layer. Tabs are etched in the second conductive layer, then resistors, which couple various tabs together, are etched in the resistive layer. Plated holes connect the tabs to desired locations in the trace pattern located on the opposing side of the substrate.
