Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of a composition including propanoic acid, a C4 acid salt, and a component selected from a C2-C5 acid ester and a C2-C5 aldehyde and combinations thereof. The composition is provided in an aqueous medium. Each of the propanoic acid and the C4 acid salt are independently present in an amount at least partially sufficient to provide to said composition a pH greater than about 4.4.

Abstract: A packaged food product and methods of making and using it. In some embodiments. The packaged food product may comprise a cup containing multiple ingredients in sealed pouches suitable for use in making an omelet or other egg-based entrées, with the cup being suitable for microwave cooking of an egg-based entrée. The ingredients may include vegetable components that offer organoleptic properties similar to those of fresh vegetables after an extended period of time. Ideally, time required for processing, shipment, storage, etc., which may be, e.g., several weeks, may pass without unacceptable degradation of taste, texture, mouth feel, flavor, aroma, color, nutritional content or other important qualities. In some embodiments, the ingredients may also include additional components, such as, for example, one or more meats, and/or one or more varieties of cheese.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for forming a protective coating on a plant tissue following the consecutives steps of: (a) providing a plant having an external surface, wherein a portion of the external surface includes an exposed surface; (b) applying a first aqueous solution that contains a crosslinking agent to the external surface of the plant; and (c) applying to the external surface of the plant a second aqueous solution that contains a polysaccharide which is susceptible to crosslinking by the crosslinking agent, thereby forming a protective coating on the exposed surface of the plant. Further provided is a postharvest plant matter that includes a first segment covered by natural skin, and a second segment having an exposed surface that is coated by a protective coating that contains a polysaccharide with the first segment being essentially free of the protective coating.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to the generation of food grade sugar modified 1-MCP nanobubbles ranging in size from 50 to 600 nm. These nanobubbles have a high degree of stability while in aqueous solution and can inhibit the action of ethylene in different biological processes. In addition, they can reduce the action of ethylene in plant metabolism, making the plant less susceptible to water stress, low temperature stress, and stress from soil conditions, among others. This disclosure also relates to the method of preparing sugar modified 1-MCP nanobubbles, their different uses and applications.
