A small, compact multifunction printing device provides excellent ease of use with little possibility of slips and continuous paper jamming inside. The multifunction printer has a check processing unit and a continuous paper processing unit. The check processing unit has a U-shaped check conveyance path P1 that opens to the front of the printer and enables handling slips to be processed and the processed slips from the front of the printer. A continuous paper conveyance path P2 that conveys continuous paper fed from a paper roll in the roll paper compartment from the back to the front of the printer is formed on the inside of the check conveyance path P1, enabling replacing roll paper and removing processed continuous paper from the front. The conveyance paths P1 and P2 are independent of each other, the printing positions thereof are separated, and conveyed slips and continuous paper will not interfere with each other.

A process for the manufacturing of surface elements is provided herein. The surface elements can include a decorative upper layer and a supporting core. A supporting core with a desired format can be manufactured by press molding and provided with an upper side and a lower side. The upper side of the supporting core can be provided with a structure by a momentary pressing operation using a surface structured matrix. A ground coating can be provided on the structured upper side of the supporting core. A digitally printed decor comprising inks of at least four colors can be applied directly on top of the ground coating by an ink-jet type printer. The structure of the supporting core can enhance the realism of the decor, wherein the decor can be selected from the group consisting of woods and minerals.

In a printer for printing an attributed character by printing a character part and an attribute part separately, the invented printer or typewriter is so constructed that only an attribute part, e.g., an underline part or a bold face part, is printed in case a printed character is detected to already have the attribute, i.e., is underlined, or bold face, thereby preventing a character part of the printed character from being double printed. This results in improved quality in printed characters and in complete clear character erasures. The printer is also effective for overprinting attribute parts to over a desired range of printed characters.

Apparatus for use in a dot-matrix type impact printer for printing each line of characters and/or graphic data in a selective one of a plurality of character fonts and/or formats. In one preferred embodiment, a manual selection is made corresponding to either a normal or compressed spacing between adjacent dot columns by selection of a registration array from a group of such arrays. Dual-channel reading means cooperate with the registration arrays for determining the position of a print head as it moves across a print line and for enabling a plurality of print wires to be selectively impacted against the paper document whenever the print head is in proper registration as determined by the selected array. Spacing between registration slits of each array is uniform but is different as between arrays. The selected array may be changed either manually or remotely. Upon completion of the printing of a line, control logic means returns the printer to a "selected" format. Double width characters may be printed utilizing any of the arrays. In an alternative embodiment, a horizontal format may be utilized to permit printing in only selected regions or columns.
