    摘要: A process and apparatus are disclosed for improving the efficiency of combustion in a spark ignition four cycle internal combustion piston engine. After a fuel-air charge is inducted into the cylinder(s), gas is injected at moderate pressure into the cylinder at a level below the spark plug, while the pressure in the cylinder is low. Preferred gas injection timing is from about the time the piston completes the intake stroke until the piston is about half-way through its compression stroke. Air and/or engine exhaust may comprise the injected gases. Valves and conduit for controlling the injection are provided as a sub-assembly which can be fitted to existing engines and use the engine camshaft for correct actuation.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine in which a compact ring type boiler pack is installed around each cylinder under the cylinder head. Water is pumped through each boiler at a rate proportional to the cylinder temperature, to maintain a proper cooling and steam injection balance, the generated steam being injected peripherally into the cylinder in pulses, timed by a valve which is controlled by movement of the inlet valve actuating mechanism of the particular cylinder. The boiler has multiple stages to ensure complete conversion of the water to steam, the peripheral steam injection providing internal cooling of the cylinder walls without interfering with normal combustion. The steam system is adaptable to existing internal combustion engines and results in reduced fuel consumption, very low pollutant emissions in the exhaust and a very efficient thermal cycle.

    摘要: An engine monitoring system and/or emission reduction system is provided for use in conjunction with an internal combustion engine. The system includes a plurality of sensors which detect various engine operating conditions and in which each sensor generates an output signal representative of its particular engine operating condition. At least one of these sensors is a gas sensor associated with the exhaust system which produces an output signal indicative of the concentration of nitric oxides in the exhaust emissions and which has an output which varies as a function of the concentration of such nitric oxides. A central processing unit receives inputs from the various engine sensors and, in accordance with preprogrammed algorithms, monitors the engine for failure and/or deterioration of various components in the emission reduction system as well as the various engine sensors. The processing unit further generates output signals which controls the operation of various engine components to optimize the operating condition of the engine as well as to meet governmental standards relating to engine emissions.

In the method the fuel mixture is supplemented with air and exhaust gas by utilizing pressure controlled air and exhaust gas valves operated by pressure changes in the fuel feed system and/or intake manifold of the engine so that the valves open when the fuel to air ratio of the fuel mixture supplied by the carburettor is in excess of a predetermined value.
