摘要: The cold cathode tube for illuminating pixels with light which is in accordance with an output signal has luminance which gradually increases at a rise and gradually decreases at a fall per one frame time. The cold cathode tube contains a fluorescent material of only one of three primary colors of light, and has a certain OFF period or dimming period per one frame time. Between a diffusing plate and a reflecting plate are provided partition walls for parting emitting areas, so that the illumination light of one cold cathode tube does not reach the display elements to be illuminated by the other cold cathode tubes. The emission of each display element is changed per one frame time between a normal ON state and a dim state. The cold cathode tube has two or more OFF periods within one frame time, and, luminance of the cold cathode tube is changed per one frame period. As a result, it is possible to suppress shortening of life of emitters in an illuminating section, and to relieve lowering of luminance of the emitters, and also to obtain a desirable display quality even in a fast-moving image.

摘要: A matrix display system including a unit made up of a plurality of modules, each module containing an array of incandescent lamps which provides a low cost assembly for displaying video images and messages. The unit also includes the necessary electronics to control the brightness of each lamp of the array in order to form images in response to a standard video signal. Relatively simple circuitry is provided for controlling the video sampling, lamp brightness levels, and lamp pre-heat power. All signals are digitized, and no adjustments are required in the display unit itself. Each lamp plugs into the display unit to facilitate replacements. The display unit is divided into a plurality of modules for rapid servicing, and to allow for the possibility of larger or smaller displays by using different numbers of modules.

摘要: An apparatus designed for detecting the position of a faulty light emitting element and installed in a large screen display system which is equipped with a large screen consisting of multiple light emitting elements such as cathode-ray tubes or electric bulbs arrayed vertically and horizontally in columns and rows to display desired still images, characters or motion images, and also with a character processor and motion image processor as control means. The apparatus comprises an input means for receiving a drive command to turn on or off an arbitrary group of light emitting elements out of those constituting the large screen; a display means for displaying the content of the command fed to the input means; a character processor for converting the content of the command into a signal and outputtting the signal to a motion image processor; and the motion image processor for writing the output signal of the character processor in and reading it out from an incorporated memory, thereby continuously processing the position data designated by the input means relative to the element group to be turned on or off. Detecting the position of any faulty light emitting element can be achieved by adjusting the faulty element to attain positional coincidence with the element group to be turned on or off.

摘要: A display system employs electronic components for deriving and supplying display control signals, preferably in the form of multi-bit display control words, to control a display device formed of a plurality of individual display units preferably arranged in horizontal rows and vertical columns. Each of the display units is controlled by at least one bit of a multi-bit display control word. Each vertical column of the display device is collectively controlled in whole or in part by one multi-bit display control word. Control and memory elements control the display device in accordance with a plurality of display control words received. The control and memory elements include a first level memory such as a shift register, and a second level memory such as a latch. Display control words are shifted sequentially into the first level memory until the plurality of display control words is positioned at desired memory locations. Thereafter, the display control words are transferred to a second level memory location. Signals supplied from the second level memory operatively control the visual display or pattern presented. New display control words can be positioned in desired first level memory locations while signals from the second level memory control the pattern presented. The intensity of the display units is controlled by energizing the units in predetermined fractions of the periods of the periodic waveform which energizes the display units. The system includes a system memory for recording and holding a plurality of display control words which define a selected pattern or patterns to be presented. The system may repetitiously access in sequential order the display control words defining the pattern, thereby allowing the pattern to be repetitiously presented upon the display. A pattern composition device logically combines two preexisting display control words in separate memory locations and supplies the new display control word resulting from the combination to a third memory location. The composition device is thereby operative to combine a plurality of patterns defined by selected groups of display control words in memory.
