Abstract: A high dynamic range sensing device is disclosed. The device includes an array of Bayer pattern units. Each of the Bayer pattern units comprises a plurality of pixels and each of the plurality of pixels comprises a plurality of photodiodes. At least one of the plurality of photodiodes in each pixel is configured to detect near infrared (NIR) light and at least one of the plurality of photodiodes in each of the plurality of pixels is configured to detect visible light.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a computer-implemented method includes: causing a camera module to capture a plurality of frame portions with an exposure time at a sampling clock period. The frame portions correspondingly reflect a predetermined number of first signal pulses periodically generated by a light source. The exposure time corresponds to a duration of one of the predetermined number of first signal pulses. A first data sequence is encoded into the first signal pulses. The sampling clock period is different from a duration of the first data sequence such that a second data sequence is obtained from cycling through all of the first data sequence.

Abstract: An image-capturing device includes a sensor, a visible-light-pixel driver, and a non-visible-light-pixel driver. The sensor is configured to have a plurality of visible light pixels having sensitivity to visible light and a plurality of non-visible light pixels having sensitivity to non-visible light. The visible-light-pixel driver controls light exposure to the visible light pixels and a reading operation for charges generated by photoelectric conversion of the visible light pixels resulting from the light exposure. The non-visible-light-pixel driver performs the light exposure to previously-set every two or more non-visible light pixels at the time of the light exposure to the non-visible light pixels and the reading operation, sums the charges generated by the photoelectric conversion of the two or more non-visible light pixels resulting from the light exposure, and creates the distance image on the basis of the summed charges.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed using camera devices for deep channel and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) images and formats. In one example, image values are captured by a color sensor array in an image capturing device or camera. The image values provide color channel data. The captured image values by the color sensor array are input to a CNN having at least one CNN layer. The CNN provides CNN channel data for each layer. The color channel data and CNN channel data is to form a deep channel image that stored in a memory. In another example, image values are captured by sensor array. The captured image values by the sensor array are input a CNN having a first CNN layer. An output is generated at the first CNN layer using the captured image values by the color sensor array. The output of the first CNN layer is stored as a feature map of the captured image.

Abstract: A system and method for generating high resolution images using a plenoptic camera, is provided. In one embodiment, the comprises capturing a first set of images in a first unexcited state of operation by using a birefringent medium disposed between a main lens and an array of lenses having a plurality of apertures. Each pixel of the first set of images is then mapped to a first set of apertures. The first unexcited state is then caused to become a second excited state by applying a voltage across said birefringent medium. A second set of images are captured in the second excited state and a second set of pixels of the second image is mapped to a second set of apertures. A value is calculated for each first and second set of images and the value associated with said first set of images is subtracted from at least two times the value calculated from said second set of image.

Abstract: Provided herein is an image-sensing device and a method for auto white balance. An image signal processor is used to perform the method. In the method, an RGBIr photo sensor receives an image with data over red, green and blue channels. The image data over the red, green and blue channel is firstly restored. A series of weights are calculated according to the image data over an infrared channel. The weights are allocated to the image data so as to adjust the infrared ratios over the red, green and blue channels for reducing infrared effect on auto white balance. After that, an infrared weighting calculation is performed for adjusting the infrared values over the red, green and blue channels of the image. A set of white balance gains are obtained. An auto white balance is performed for obtaining a new image with infrared crosstalk compensation.

Abstract: The invention provides an autonomous vehicle with a video camera that merges images taken a different light levels by replacing saturated parts of an image with corresponding parts of a lower-light image to stream a video with a dynamic range that extends to include very low-light and very intensely lit parts of a scene. The high dynamic range (HDR) camera streams the HDR video to a HDR system in real time—as the vehicle operates. As pixel values are provided by the camera's image sensors, those values are streamed directly through a pipeline processing operation and on to the HDR system without any requirement to wait and collect entire images, or frames, before using the video information.
