Abstract:
he present invention provides compositions and methods for the coating and/or ballistic conditioning of firearm projectiles and firearm components including gun barrels, firearm chambers, fully assembled cartridges, shotgun shells, shotgun wads, shot capsules and sabots with molybdenum disulfide. The composition comprises powdered molybdenum disulfide suspended in a carrier comprising a volatile solvent and a binder selected from cellulosic-, alkyd- and acrylic-resins. Methods for the conditioning of firearm bores by the formation of a hardened layer comprising a product of the reaction or interaction of molybdenum disulfide with materials in the barrel bore are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A water-based release agent comprises: 30-99 % total solids by weight chemically exfoliated vermiculite, and 1-70 % total solids by weight of a plate-like filler. Such release agents are particularly suitable for use with gaskets. An anisotropic release agent is formed from which it is easy to release other materials.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to novel lubricant and friction modifier compositions optionally comprising a solid lubricant and a binding agent in water medium suitable for lubricating steel-steel interfaces such as tractor-trailer couplings, rail-wheel systems and other heavy duty applications. The invention also relates to compositions described above which include friction modifiers with high or very high and positive coefficients of friction such that the coefficient of friction is considerably higher than the solid lubricant. The invention further relates to compositions comprising a binding agent and a friction modifier with a very high and positive coefficient of friction in a water medium.
Abstract:
Waterborne lubricants comprising: (A) water-soluble inorganic salt; (B) homogeneously dispersed solid lubricant; (C) at least one homogeneously emulsified substance selected from mineral oils, animal and plant oils and fats, and synthetic oils; (D) surfactant; and (E) water, in which the weight ratio (B)/(A) is from 0.05:1 to 2:1 and the weight ratio {C/(A + B)} is from 0.05:1 to 1:1, provide a one-step, highly lubricating waterborne lubricant for use in the cold plastic working of metals. This waterborne lubricant can replace the conversion coating treatment (phosphate, oxalate, etc.) + reactive soap treatment combined lubrication system now in general use and is free of the environmental issues associated with the combined lubrication system, provides for facile coating removal, and is not subject to the decline in seizure resistance caused by nonuniform add-on when large numbers of workpieces are treated together by immersion.
Abstract:
The claim concerns a method of stabilising motor oil, whereby oil is forced successively through an alkaline reagent and a halide. The novelty of the proposed method lies in the use of polyvinyl alcohol iodide or amyl iodide as the halide.
Abstract:
This invention provides oil-soluble complexes of oil-insoluble phosphorus-free strong mineral acids and alcohols. The complexes are useful antiwear additives in lubricating oils, particularly automatic transmission fluids.
Abstract:
The invention is a particulate suspending, antimicrobial concentrate composition. The concentrate may be used in any number of environments including food service and processing environments such as brewing and bottling facilities. Generally the concentrate may be entrained in a product or introduced directly into the environment of use. The concentrate generally comprises an antimicrobial cationic compound such as a quaternary ammonium compound, and a particulate suspending surfactant such as an amphoteric propionic acid salt.
Abstract:
A water-in-oil emulsion is disclosed which comprises: (A) a continuous oil phase; (B) a discontinuous aqueous phase; (C) a minor emulsifying amount of at least one salt derived from (C)(I) at least one hydrocarbyl-substituted carboxylic acid or anhydride, or ester or amide derivative of said acid or anhydride, the hydrocarbyl substituent of (C)(I) having an average of from about 20 to about 500 carbon atoms, with (C)(II) ammonia, at least one alkali or alkaline earth metal, and/or at least one alkali or alkaline earth metal compound; and (D) a functional amount of at least one water-soluble, oil-insoluble functional additive dissolved in said aqueous phase.
