Abstract:
According to aspects of the invention there are provided a computer-implemented method for distributing content from one or more content sources over a communications network to a plurality of users by a master node of a content distribution system, the content distribution system further comprising a plurality of local nodes in communication with the master node, each local node serving a group of users from the plurality of users, the method comprising: maintaining a content directory associated with a plurality of content items of the one or more content sources, the content directory comprising content location data for the plurality of content items and information associated with each of the content item; transmitting the content directory to one or more of the local nodes; maintaining a user profile bank comprising one or more user profiles for each of the plurality of users; and transmitting the user profile bank to one or more of the local nodes for use in generating, at each local node, user content location data for each user in the group of users based on selecting a plurality of content items from the content directory according to a user profile of said user, the user content location data including locations of the selected content items, wherein the user content location data for each user is transmitted to a content player associated with said each user for use in retrieving the corresponding content items from the one or more content sources for seamless playback of the selected content items.
Abstract:
A method and vehicle-based communication system are provided that control a remote microphone by determining that one or more of the remote microphone and a user of the remote microphone is in a field of view (FOV) of a video camera and, in response, instructing the remote microphone to configure itself to receive ambient audio. In various embodiments, the remote microphone may configure itself, or be explicitly instructed to configure itself, to receive ambient audio by adjusting one or more of a beam forming or omni-directional pattern, potentially including noise cancellation algorithms to facilitate reception of ambient audio in contrast to user directed audio. When the one or more of the remote microphone and a user of the remote microphone no longer is in a FOV of the video camera, the method and vehicle-based communication system may instruct the remote microphone to reconfigure itself to receive user directed audio.
Abstract:
A system enabling interactive audio advertisement, the system constituted of: an audio capture device; and a server, the audio capture device exhibiting: a control circuitry; an audio recorder exposed to an audio message part and responsive to the control circuitry, the audio recorder arranged to maintain a trailing portion of audio; a user controlled input device in communication with the control circuitry; and a communication module responsive to the control circuitry, the control circuitry arranged to transmit a function of the maintained trailing portion of audio via the communication module to the server responsive to the user controlled input device, the server exhibiting: a receiver arranged to receive the transmitted function of the trailing portion of audio; and an audio identification module arranged to identify the maintained trailing portion of audio responsive to the received transmitted function of the trailing portion of audio.
Abstract:
Example methods and apparatus to measure market statistics are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes retrieving a service penetration value from a managed data source, retrieving an Internet protocol (IP) address from a convenience data source, and identifying a household identification number associated with the retrieved IP address. The example method also includes retrieving household data associated with the household identification number, verifying a service provider name provided by the convenience data source, and adjusting a weight value of the retrieved household data when the service provider name provided by the convenience data source is different than a current service provider name. Additionally, the example method includes calculating service provider flow share based on the adjusted weight value and the service penetration value, and generating a report including the calculated service provider flow share.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for initializing a dual mode device can use a network type flag to determine whether a network type is set. The dual mode device can initialize using a network type corresponding to the network type flag. In some implementations, if the network type is incorrect, the dual mode device can update the network type flag and restart the dual mode device.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for measuring an audience by: directing a light source in the direction of the audience; detecting reflections of the light source from the audience by a light detector in order to form an image representing the audience eyes; and analyzing the image received on the light detector to identify and count the number of eyes on the image. Preferably, the analyzed information is communicated to a remote facility. The light source can be in the visible spectrum, infrared (IR) spectrum or even ultraviolet (UV) spectrum. The reflected light from the retina or cornea is then captured by a light detector.
Abstract:
A presence detector for detecting and estimating an audience watching television comprising: one or more presence sensors adapted to capturing signals emitted by or reflected from the audience; and a translator connected to the one or more presence sensors adapted to translating output signals created by the one or more presence sensors to data signals representing the estimated number of people in the audience. Presence information captured is converted to television rating data and is very useful for pricing advertisements accurately.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for automatically recognizing a user of an interactive media guidance application are provided. The interactive media guidance application may monitor a plurality of users' interactions with the interactive media guidance application, and determine, from the interactions, user profiles. For example, the interactive media guidance application may determine that a number of interactions (e.g., a number of viewed programs) satisfy a relevancy rule, and associate the interactions with the same user profile. The interactive media guidance application may identify the parts of the day when each user uses the interactive media guidance application, and associate the corresponding user profiles with the current day part. The interactive media guidance application may further identify the user that is associated with each user profile by prompting a user to identify himself during the day part that is associated with a particular user profile.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to determine audience viewing of video-on-demand programs are disclosed (Fig. 3). An example method disclosed herein comprises creating a reference database 304, 324 corresponding to a set of VOD programs, determining 320 whether a VOD program is selected at a subscriber site, extracting at least one identifier from a signal carrying the VOD program, and cross-referencing 328 the at least one identifier with the reference database.
Abstract:
A system and method for evaluating responses to broadcast programs, such as television programs, include an instructional signal modulated into a signal transmitted concurrently with the television program, simulcast, or time-multiplexed with a television. At each of a plurality of remote receiving stations (206c), one or more members of a remote audience has the opportunity to respond to a situation presented in the television program by entering a response (800) on a keyboard. For conducting a sweepstakes, numbers or other resonses are entered at the remote stations and are stored at a central facility (1708) for verification. The program may be presented live conducted by a host at a central station, or by a prerecorded message accessible by telephone from a remote station with regulation from a central station, and members of the remote audience may predict or select winning contestants.
