Abstract:
Embodiments of computer-implemented methods and systems for posting non-machine journal entries to a general ledger can help the user validate non-machine journal entries posted to the general ledger. A non-machine journal entry application can be operated on a web platform which can be operated to maintain recurrent entries, create new or correct existing entries, and validate entries before posting them to the general ledger system. Operating the non-machine journal entry application, a user can store and maintain recurring entries in a database; validate a journal batch before posting; post recurring entries; correct existing entries; track journal entry batches sent to the general ledger; report on types of journal entries and posting history; and verify recurring batch completeness from exception, summary and account detail reports. The application centralizes the data entry and collection processes, enforces strict validation and quality control rules, and provides control through management reporting in a web-based environment.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method to construct a device that includes a plurality of nanowires (NWs) each having a core and at least one shell. The method includes providing a plurality of radially encoded NWs where each shell contains one of a plurality of different shell materials; and differentiating individual ones of the NWs from one another by selectively removing or not removing shell material within areas to be electrically coupled to individual ones of a plurality of mesowires (MWs). Also disclosed is a nanowire array that contains radially encoded NWs, and a computer program product useful in forming a nanowire array.
Abstract:
Apparatus for scanning a moving object includes a visible waveband sensor (12) oriented to collect a series of images of the object as it passes through a field of view (16). An image processor (14) uses the series of images to form a composite image. The image processor (14) stores image pixel data for a current image and a predecessor image in the series. It uses information in the current image and its predecessor to analyse images and derive likelihood measures indicating probabilities that current image pixels correspond to parts of the object. The image processor (14) estimates motion between the current image and its predecessor from likelihood weighted pixels. It generates the composite image from frames positioned according to respective estimates of object image motion. Image motion may alternatively be detected by a speed sensor such as a Doppler radar (200) sensing object motion directly and providing image timing signals.
Abstract:
A light-emitting diode assembly (10) attachable to a display panel (11), the assembly comprising a light-emitting diode (12) having locking structure thereon, the structure defining a boss; a lens cap (18) receiving the diode (12) forwardly therein, and clip structure integral with the cap (18) and projecting sidewardly proximate the diode locking structure; the clip structure defining spring fingers (20) projecting rearwardly at the side of the diode (12), the fingers (20) defining first grooves to receive the boss on the diode (12), and second grooves to receive portions of the display panel (11) adjacent an opening (19) formed therein; the lens cap (18) being annular, and including a light-reflecting surface on the lens cap (18) extending about forward extent of the diode (12), forwardly of the spring fingers (20), and angled to reflect rays from the diode (12) in a generally forward direction.
Abstract:
An orthopaedic intramedullary fixation apparatus and system for use in hip and femur facture surgery comprises an intramedullary nail, a dynamic lag screw structure comprising a longitudinal sheath and a lag screw, and securing means to fix the intramedullary nail relative to a femur. A dynamic channel created by the lag screw structure allows the lag screw to adjust dynamically, and thereby may permit further compression of the fractured bone to an optimal level as a patient begins to bear weight on it following surgery. Surgical fixation may be expedited, as a favorable point of access for a lag screw may be determined readily, particularly with obese patients in whom access to the trochanter may be problematic. Complications during surgery, such as accidental fracturing of the femoral neck and head and over-penetration of the lag screw may be avoided.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided for controlling a display unit using a portable processing device, the method comprising a user performing an authentication on the portable processing device, receiving a personalized user interface on the portable processing device, the user interface comprising data indicative of at least one application displayed on the display unit and corresponding additional data related to the at least one application and performing a selection on the user interface using the data indicative of at least one application displayed on the display unit and corresponding additional data related to the at least one application.
Abstract:
A method for controlling electric conduction on nanoscale wires is disclosed. The nanoscale wires are provided with controllable regions axially and/or radially distributed. Controlling those regions by means of microscale wires or additional nanoscale wires allows or prevents electric conduction on the controlled nanoscale wires. The controllable regions are of two different types. For example, a first type of controllable region can exhibit a different dopingfrom a second type of controllable region. The method allows one or more of a set of nanoscale wires, packed at sublithographic pitch, to be independentlyselected.
Abstract:
A method of operating a self service terminal (SST) (12) is described, in which the SST (12) detects characteristics of a mobile computing device held by a user (16), and configures the user interface dependent on the detected characteristics. The characteristics may include features of the mobile device, such as communication facilities, or may include user identification information. Where the user is identified, a user profile may be retrieved from a remote SST operator (14). Certain embodiments of the invention may detect devices held by a second or subsequent user (18), and retrieve the relevant user profile prior to the second user (18) interacting with the SST (12).
Abstract:
A cooling fan for an engine in a vehicle. Ordinarily, a fan rotates within a shroud, which surrounds the fan. Leakage can occur between the tips of the fan blades and the shroud, wherein fan exhaust moves forward, and then passes through the fan again. The invention reduces leakage by placing a surface downstream of the fan. The surface employs the Coanda Effect, to urge fan exhaust to continue in the downstream direction, and not move forward as leakage air.
