The present invention is based, at least in part, on the surprising discovery that a cellobiase from Trichoderma reesei that was expressed in a non-fungal cell line and isolated from a host cell that does not significantly glycosylate the enzyme had higher specific activity on pure substrate than the endogenous cellobiase (glycosylated and secreted) from T. reesei.
