The hydrogel is derived from an aqueous composition comprising: a hydrophilic monomer comprising at least one of (meth)acrylate and (meth)acrylamide; at least 0.1 wt% of a water-swellable clay; at least 0.1 wt% cellulose nanocrystals; and a photoinitiator. Also disclosed herein are methods of making hydrogels and articles thereof.
