Vehicle brake performance monitoring is provided. Braking capabilities are dynamically learned or otherwise calculated or determined in each vehicle and shared between the vehicles of the platoon. The platoon may be reorganized based on differences between the learned or otherwise calculated or determined relative braking capabilities. Desired gaps between the platooning vehicles may be modified in accordance with the learned or otherwise calculated or determined relative braking capabilities as necessary or desired. During every vehicle stop, the vehicle and axle loads together with information on the time from brake apply to when the vehicle decelerates is monitored and entered as a data point defining the vehicle response delay. The axle loads and the ABS Activation of a wheel end for a given pressure is further selectively used to create another data point. The data points are selectively used to develop overall performance (e.g., quality score) of the brake system.
Abstract:
A system and method for mitigating or avoiding risks due to hazards encountered by platooning vehicles. The system and method involve interrogating, with one or more sensors, a space radially extending from a lead vehicle as the lead vehicle travels over the road surface, perceiving the environment within the space, ascertaining a hazard caused by an object in the space, and causing a following vehicle, operating in a platoon with the lead vehicle, to take a preemptive braking action to avoid or mitigate risks resulting from the hazard caused by the object in the space.

The present invention relates to a method for facilitating driving of a vehicle along a road. The method comprises the steps of: tracking (S1) at least one vehicle along the road ahead of said vehicle; determining (S2) a historic trail of the vehicle being tracked; and taking (S3) a determined historic trail into consideration during driving of the vehicle. Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Ermittlung eines Spurverlaufes einer Verbindungsfahrstrecke (5) zwischen einem ersten Fahrzeug (1) und einem zweiten Fahrzeug (2), wobei das erste Fahrzeug (1) dem zweiten Fahrzeug (2) vorausfährt und Spurverlaufserfassungsmittel zur Bestimmung des Spurverlaufes einer von ihm zurückgelegten Fahrstrecke aufweist. Dabei wird für das erste Fahrzeug (1) der Spurverlauf einer von ihm zurückgelegten Fahrstrecke (3) ermittelt und an das zweite Fahrzeug (2) übermittelt. Der Spurverlauf der Verbindungsfahrstrecke (5) zwischen den beiden Fahrzeugen (1, 2) wird durch Bestimmung einer Position des zweiten Fahrzeugs (2) auf dem übermittelten Spurverlauf ermittelt.
