Abstract:

Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for improving the bonding and care of a dental prosthesis using the dental prosthesis support itself. According to the inventive method, a dental prosthesis which is not optimally fitted to the palate is first provided with a relining, and the bonding of the dental prosthesis is additionally reinforced by applying a bonding cream. In addition, the relined dental prosthesisis cared for by cleaning it with an oxidative cleaning agent at regular intervals. The points of the dental prosthesis to be relined are preferably enameled before applying the relining so that the relining can be easily removed later. A set for carrying out the inventive method contains starting components (13, 15) for producing a dental prosthesis relining, preferably a quick-drying enamel solution, a boding cream and cleaning tablets. The set for improving cleaning and bonding contains products which are well-suited to one another. Said products enable an improved bonding of the dental prosthesis by means of a relining produced on the palette and by caring for the relined dental prosthesis for a period of 4 to 6 weeks.
Abstract:
A method for the diagnosis and reduction of dental caries in patients which comprises: (i) testing means for monitoring the level of Streptococcus mutans in an oral cavity; and (ii) a two stage antimicrobial coating comprising as a first stage, an antimicrobial varnish comprising at least one antimicrobial agent, in a resin binder in an orally acceptable liquid vehicle for painting upon the teeth, and as a second stage, a dentally acceptable, biodegradable, polymeric sealant in an orally acceptable liquid vehicle which is applied over the varnish, when the varnish has dried to a translucent, transparent or tooth coloured film; wherein the testing means is used to determine the level of Streptococcus mutans in the oral cavity of a dental patient to establish what treatment if any the patient requires in accordance with the following guidelines: a) for a patient with normal levels of Streptococcus mutans, the patient is asked to return for routine checkups and monitoring testing for Streptococcus mutans level as usual; b) for a patient with above normal levels of Streptococcus mutans, the patient is given one application of the two stage antimicrobial coating and asked to return after three months, for a further Streptococcus mutans test; c) for a patient with substantially greater than normal or persistently above normal levels of Streptococcus mutans, the patient is given a total of from about two to about four once a week applications of the two stage antimicrobial coating; and d) for a patient whose Streptococcus mutans levels remain unaffected by the two stage applications set out in paragraph c), subjecting the patient to a careful re-examination of the dentician for previously undetected decay, recurrent root decay or leaking restorations.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a polymer comprising covalently bound side chains of the formula -X-Y-Z-R wherein X is a spacer group; is a sulphur, selenium or tellurium atom; Z is a sulphur, selenium or tellurium atom any of which may be bonded to one or two oxygen atoms; and wherein R is any suitable moiety such that -Z-R constitutes a leaving group.
Abstract:
This invention relates to rapid drying lacquers that are particularly useful for automotive OEM refinish applications. The lacquer includes a novel highly branched copolyester polyol. This invention is also directed to a process for producing coatings from the rapid drying lacquers. These lacquers are especially useful in providing for chip and humidity resistant coatings having improved adhesion.
Abstract:
A method and composition for treating hypertrophic scars so as to reduce the size and approve the appearance of scars comprises applying to the scar a composition comprising a film-forming carrier such as a collodion which contains one or more active ingredients such as a topical steroid, silicone gel and vitamin E. Novel compositions using the Collodion film-forming carrier are also useful to treat a variety of adverse skin disorders.
