An integrated plant to generate chemical grade syngas from a steam biomass reforming in a multiple stage bio reforming reactor for use with either a high temperature or low temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis process to produce fuel from biomass is discussed. The first stage has a reactor to cause a chemical devolatilization of a biomass feedstock from the biomass feedstock supply lines into its constituent gases of CO, H2, CO2, CH4, tars, chars, and other components into a raw syngas mixture. A second stage performs further reforming of the raw syngas from the first stage into the chemical grade syngas by further applying heat and pressure to chemically crack at least the tars, reform the CH4, or a combination of both, into their corresponding syngas molecules. The second stage feeds the chemical grade syngas derived from the biomass feedstock to the downstream Fischer-Tropsch train to produce the fuel from the biomass. One or more recycle loops supply tail gas or FT product back into the plant.

The treated gasifier syngas and the light fossil fuel conversion unit product gas are combined to form a mixed syngas that is converted into a liquid fuel product. The CO 2 enriched gas is used in the gasification unit.

Systems and methods are provided for enhancing the integration of processes for recovering products from algae-derived biomass. The enhanced process integration allows for increased use of input streams and other reagents that are derived from renewable sources. This increases the overall renewable character of the products extracted from the algae-derived biomass. The process integration can include exchange of input streams or energy between an algae processing system and a system for processing non-algal biomass. One example of improving process integration is using oxygenates that are generated in a renewable manner as a reagent for enhancing the algae processing system.

The invention relates to a method and installations for reducing the greenhouse gases of fuels and combustibles and to the use of said fuels and combustibles as greenhouse-reduced energy carriers, especially as zero-greenhouse-gas-free fuels in transport. CO2 from renewable sources is separated from pyrolysis gas and/or from flue gas and/or from biogas, and recuperated. The recuperated renewable CO2 is put in a geological repository (sequestered). According to a second possible use, the recuperated renewable CO2 replaces fossil CO2 as a raw material. According to a third possible use, the renewable CO2 is used as a raw material for the production of substantially greenhouse-gas-free synthetic fuels, replacing fossil fuels and thereby avoiding additional fossil greenhouse gas emissions. According to the first option of use, renewable CO2 is removed from the environment, i.e. the atmospheric CO2 content is actively reduced. According to the second option of use, fossil CO2 is directly replaced by renewable CO2, and according to the third option of use, the additional emission of fossil CO2 and thus an increase in atmospheric CO2 content is avoided. The greenhouse effects or greenhouse gas credits or greenhouse gas certificates produced by the three options of use are offset against the greenhouse gas emissions of fossil or renewable or synthetic fuels. The virtual-statistic offsetting of the greenhouse gas credits reduces the greenhouse gas emissions of these fuels, at best down to 0gCO2 equivalent/MJ or down to 0gCO2 equivalent/kWh or down to 0gCO2 equivalent/km. Vehicles using such zero emission fuels will turn into exceptionally environmentally friendly zero emission vehicles, thereby allowing zero emission mobility without developing novel drive technologies.

In the method a biomass raw-material is gasified produce a raw syngas containing carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen, the hydrogen-to-carbon monoxide ratio being about 0.5 to 1.7. A part of the impurities is removed to produce a clean syngas which is fed into a Fischer-Tropsch reactor where a significant part of the carbon monoxide and hydrogen is converted to a hydrocarbon composition containing C 4 -C 90 hydrocarbons. From the Fischer-Tropsch reactor a hydrocarbon composition is recovered which mainly contains hydrocarbons which are solid or semisolid at ambient temperature and pressure and an off-gas of the Fischer- Tropsch reactor, comprising hydrocarbons which are gaseous at ambient temperature and pressure, is used for producing hydrogen gas; and the hydrogen thus produced is fed into the clean syngas. By introducing hydrogen into the clean syngas, the hydrogen to carbon monoxide ratio can be increased and by using off-gas-produced hydrogen, the capacity of the process is significantly improved.
