Abstract:
An elevator tension member is presented that has one or more steel cords as strength members that are encased in a jacket of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer. The thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer is selected on the basis of its thermal properties in that the glass transition temperature of the hard phase (Tg HS) is above 90°C. In preferential embodiments that thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer has a crystallisation temperature (Tg) that is at least 20°C higher than Tg HS. In other preferential embodiments the sum of Tg HS and Tc is higher than 200°C. Such thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers exhibit an unexpected increase in useful lifetime when compared to conventionally used polyurethanes. Moreover the invention provides a simple method to select an appropriate thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer.
Abstract:
A hybrid cable having a core and a wrap; the core made from a carbon fiber yarn or bundle of carbon fiber strands or yarns; and the wrap made of a plurality of metal wires helically wrapped around the core, the plurality of metal wires laid side by side without crossing each other. The fibers, yarns, or core may be treated with polymeric sizing, adhesive, or binder. The wire may be steel and may have a coating such as brass or zinc plating, or a polymeric coating or treatment. The hybrid cable is useful for reinforcing composite articles such as belts, track, or hose.
Abstract:
In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a slickline for use in well drilling and hydrocarbon recovery operations includes a cable and an intermediate layer disposed around the cable. The slickline also includes a doped polymeric coating layered around the intermediate layer. The doped polymeric coating is a different material from the intermediate layer, and the doped polymeric coating includes a polymeric material doped with an element that is detectable within the doped polymeric coating via a detection machine for purposes of determining wear or other aspects about the conditions of the slickline.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a hybrid rope comprising a core element, a first and a second metallic closed layer surrounding said core element. The core element includes a bundle or construction of synthetic yarns. The first metallic closed layer includes a plurality of first wirelike members helically twisted together with the core element in a first direction. The second metallic closed layer includes a plurality of second wirelike members helically twisted together with said core element and said first metallic closed layer in a second direction. The cross-sectional area of the core element is larger than the total cross-sectional area of the first and second metallic closed layers.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a rope containing high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) yarns wherein the rope is coated with a plastomer, the plastomer being a semi-crystalline copolymer of ethylene or propylene and one or more C2 to C12 a-olefin co-monomers and the plastomer having a density as measured according to ISO1183 of between 870 and 930 kg/m3.

Abstract:
A reelable slickline for use in downhole or subsea operations has a structural core comprising a plurality of non-metallic fibres in a matrix. The fibres represent in the region of 30 to 50 % of the volume of the core.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns a method of producing a strand (2) comprising wires (3) twisted together. The wires (3) are individually coated with a protective anti-corrosive barrier film containing a volatile migratory corrosion inhibitor (VMCI). The individually coated wires may then be enclosed in a protective sheath (4), and the spaces (6) between the sheath (4) and the wires (3) may filled with a corrosion-inhibiting filler substance (7). The sheath (4) and/or the corrosion-inhibiting filler substance (7) may also contain a volatile corrosion-inhibiting agent.
Abstract:
An exemplary assembly includes at least one elongated tension member (26). A jacket (34) covers at least some of the tension member (32). The polymer jacket (34) comprises a polymer material including a melamine based geometry stabilizer that facilitates maintaining the jacket material near the tension member if the assembly is subjected to a high temperature condition.
