Abstract:
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an arrangement and a method for recirculation of exhaust gases of a combustion engine (1). The arrangement comprises a valve device (V 1 , V 2 ) arranged in the return line (9) upstream from the EGR cooler (11) with respect to the intended direction of exhaust gas flow in the return line (9), and a control unit (10) which in certain situations is adapted to placing the valve device (V 1 , V 2 ) in a cleaning position in which a portion of the return line (9b) which comprises the EGR cooler (11) is connected to surrounding air (13) so that compressed air from the inlet line (6) flows through said portion of the return line (9b) and the EGR cooler (11) before it is led out to surrounding air (13) by means of the valve device (V 1 , V 2 ).
Abstract:
A control valve (26) for an EGR system employs a variable pressure actuator (106) connected to a valve for (98) metering EGR flow and a differential pressure valve connected to supply actuation pressure to the actuator. The differential pressure valve (126) incorporates a proportional solenoid (94) connected to a pressure balancing piston (97) which receives EGR pressure on one side and exhaust flow pressure on the other. The piston (97) is connected to a shaft (130) having an orifice (128) positionable adjacent a pressure source (104) in a first position and a pressure vent (108) in a second position, an outlet of the orifice communicating with the pressure actuator. EGR control is accomplished by providing a signal to the proportional solenoid (94) which shifts the pressure balance point for the piston (97).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an arrangement and a method for recirculation of exhaust gases of a combustion engine (1). The arrangement comprises a valve means (S 2 ) arranged in the inlet line (6), a line (13) extending from the valve means (S 2 ) to a connection point (9a) to the return line, which connection point (9a) is situated upstream from the EGR cooler (11) with respect to the intended direction of exhaust gas flow in the return line (9), and a control unit (10) which in certain situations is adapted to placing the valve means (S 2 ) in a cleaning position so that at least part of the compressed air in the inlet line (6) is led via the valve means (S 2 ) and said line (13) to the return line (9), whereby the air is led in such a direction that it flows through the EGR cooler (11).
Abstract:
A blower scavenging arrangement for an internal combustion engine (5) including a blower (10) for supplying air to the engine (5), a bypass valve (15) for regulating a bypass airflow from the outlet side of the blower (10) to the inlet side thereof to thereby provide a variable rate of bypass airflow, and an ambient air valve (14) for regulating the flow rate of ambient air to the blower (10), wherein said regulation by said bypass valve (15) and said ambient air valve (14) thereby controls the pressure of the intake air supply to the blower (10), the bypass valve (15) and the ambient air valve (14) being independently controlled. These two valves together ensure that the airflow to the engine (5) can be controlled such that a suitable amount of air is delivered at any load point over the entire operating regime of the engine (5). Furthermore, the two valves together ensure that effective exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) from the engine exhaust system (6) back into the air intake system (11) can be achieved throughout the operating range of the engine (5) and particularly at idle and low load conditions.
Abstract:
A variable-geometry turbocharger (5) and a low-pressure EGR passage (31) are provided. The variable-geometry turbocharger includes a turbine (5b) provided in an exhaust passage (4), and a compressor (5a) provided in an intake passage (3). In the variable-geometry turbocharger, the cross sectional area of a path through which exhaust gas passes is adjusted by adjusting the opening degree of a nozzle vane (51). The low-pressure EGR passage connects the area of the exhaust passage downstream of the turbine to the area of the intake passage upstream of the compressor. The EGR gas is recirculated to the intake passage through the low-pressure EGR passage. The EGR gas is directed to flow through the low-pressure EGR passage when a vehicle is decelerating or when fuel supply to the internal combustion engine is cut off. The pressure in the intake passage is adjusted toward a target pressure by adjusting the opening degree of the nozzle vane when the EGR gas flows through the low-pressure EGR passage.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an arrangement and a method for recirculation of exhaust gases of a combustion engine (1). The arrangement comprises a return line (8) which enables recirculation of exhaust gases from the combustion engine (1) to an inlet line (6) which is adapted to supplying air at a positive pressure to the engine (1). The return line (8) comprises a valve (9) which can be placed in open and closed positions and a cooler (11) for cooling the exhaust gases. A control unit (10) is adapted to guiding the valve (9) to a desired position. The control unit (10) is adapted to initiating guidance of the valve (9) to the open position on at least some occasions when the exhaust gases leaving the combustion engine (1) are at a lower pressure than the pressure in the inlet line (6). This results in a backflow of air through the return line (8) with the object of cleaning the cooler (11).
Abstract:
An EGR valve apparatus (16) regulates the amount of exhaust gas recirculated in an EGR system. The EGR valves (28) are opened or closed by a rotatable shaft (30) which is actuated by a motor (14). Alternatively, the valves can be balanced on the shaft, the valves moving in opposing direction during rotation. An inline poppet can be employed to overcome pressure in the system prior to movement of the valves. In another alternative embodiment, the motor rotates threaded shaft to move a pintle towards and away from an orifice.
