Abstract: This disclosure provides an oxygen delivery and reclamation system that supplies breathable oxygen-enriched gas to one or more users in a chamber. The one or more users receive oxygen at specified oxygen level setpoints. Exhalation air from the one or more users may be purged from the breathing loop using one or both of a recycle pump and an electronically actuated valve. Exhalation air in a purge line and optionally chamber air pulled from the chamber may be recycled using an oxygen concentrator. The oxygen concentrator generates oxygen-enriched gas and oxygen-depleted gas, where the oxygen-enriched gas may be delivered back to one or more users in the chamber.

Abstract: A system for actuating a volume and/or pressure-controlled manual ventilator including a manual ventilator, a storage case, and an actuating mechanism. The manual ventilator includes a compressible body, an output one-way valve at an output end, and an input one way valve at an input end. The storage case includes an inner housing surface configured to accommodate the manual ventilator. The actuating mechanism includes a power unit mechanically coupled to a linear rod mechanism and one or more applicator pads mechanically coupled to the linear rod mechanism and proximal to the compressible body. The linear rod mechanism is configured to convert a rotating motion of the power unit into an axial movement of the linear rod mechanism. The actuating mechanism is configured to apply pressure to the compressible body of the manual ventilator via the one or more applicator pads such that a volume of the compressible body is deflated.

Abstract: An exercise with oxygen therapy (EWOT) apparatus for rejuvenating oxygen- depleted cell tissue and simulating high altitude oxygen conditions. The EWOT apparatus includes a first cylindrical bladder for providing oxygen -enriched air and a second bladder for providing lower-purity hypoxic air. The first bladder is retained within an open, lightweight rectangular-shaped frame having vertical frame members. An air supply source provides the oxygen-enriched and hypoxic air to the first and second bladders, respectively. A control switch, which can be manually and/or programmed to automatically operate, selectively delivers the oxygen-enriched and/or hypoxic air to a breathing mask worn by a user while exercising on exercise equipment. The first bladder includes a plurality of weights which provide a positive pressure to the air therein. The cylindrical first bladder is attached to the vertical frame members with slidable rings and expands and collapses in a vertical direction when being filled or during use, respectively.

Abstract: A ventilator comprising: a housing; a gas inlet port disposed in the housing and adapted to be coupled to a gas source to receive a flow of gas; a valve assembly coupled with the gas inlet port for controlling flow of gas from the gas inlet port to a gas outlet port disposed in the housing and adapted for being coupled to a patient interface to fluidly couple the gas outlet port to the airway of a patient; a controller module disposed in the housing, the controller module comprising a controller operatively coupled with the valve assembly to control operation of the valve assembly; an airway pressure sensor positioned between the valve assembly and the patient interface to measure air flow output into flowing into the airway of the patient; wherein the pressure sensor is operatively connected to said controller module to control the operation of the valve assembly in response to changes in air flow output measured by the airway pressure sensor during use.

Abstract: An aspect provides a ventilation manifold for a ventilator, the manifold comprising a fluid flow path, the flow path comprising: bifurcated end paths, a constriction path and a compressed breathable gas chamber fluidly coupled to a compressed breathable gas source, the manifold having a manifold axis defined by the constriction path; a source path of the bifurcated ends coupled to an outlet conduit for a ventilator to present the compressed breathable gas at a source angle to one side of the manifold axis; and a vent path at a vent angle to the manifold axis for an exhaust flow, the vent path acting to provide a fluid pressure valve upon an inlet compressed breathable gas from the constriction path to urge flow towards the source path and a by-pass for returned outlet spent gas flow from the source path against the inlet compressed breathable gas at the constriction path, the fluid pressure valve and the by-pass dependent upon the relative magnitudes of the source angle and the vent angle to the manifold axis and/or each other along with the configuration of the constriction path and/or the configuration of the source path and/or the vent path.

Abstract: The invention relates to a ventilator system comprising an inspiratory gas supply subsystem for supplying gas at a pressure above ambient atmospheric pressure, a ventilator module connectable therewith through a gas supply pipe system allowing gas communication, and comprising a gas discharge pipe system for discharging gas from the ventilator module, characterised by comprising a plurality of ventilator modules each having an inlet side and an outlet side, the gas supply pipe system comprising an inspiratory bus having a gas inlet segment and comprising a plurality of inspiratory pipes which are connected directly or indirectly to the inspiratory bus downstream of the gas inlet segment, each inspiratory pipe is connected to or connectable to the inlet side of one of the plurality of ventilator modules, and the inspiratory gas supply subsystem is connected to the gas inlet segment of the inspiratory bus for delivering inspiratory gas at a first pressure higher than the ambient atmospheric pressure into the gas inlet segment, the gas discharge pipe system comprising an expiratory bus having a gas outlet segment and comprising a plurality of expiratory pipes which are connected directly or indirectly to the expiratory bus upstream of the gas outlet segment, and each expiratory pipe is connectable to the outlet side of one of the plurality of ventilator modules, the ventilator system further comprising an expiratory gas discharge subsystem being in gas communication with the gas outlet segment of the expiratory bus for producing a second pressure lower than the ambient atmospheric pressure in the gas outlet segment.

Abstract: A face mask that can be used for the ventilation of patients such as in bag-valve-mask resuscitator systems is provided. The face mask can be used to form a tight seal with the patient's mouth and nose, while also creating an open airway. The face mask includes a jaw (chin)-lifting member that can be used to position the patient's head in a tilted position. The invention also encompasses bag-valve mask resuscitator systems and methods for using bag-valve mask resuscitators in the ventilation of patients. In one embodiment, the bag-valve mask resuscitator is placed so that the bag is positioned over the midline of the face of the patient.

Abstract: A respiratory ventilator is provided. The ventilator comprises a bellows configured to be compressed to deliver a selected tidal volume to a patient. A connecting rod is operably connected to the bellows to compress the bellows by a selected stroke distance that corresponds to the selected tidal volume. A crank arm has an elongated slot into which a pin extends to connect the connecting rod to the crank arm. A control wheel is for selectively adjusting an effective crank arm length. The effective crank arm length directly corresponds to the stroke distance of the connecting rod. The control wheel has a slot into which the pin extends. Selective rotation of the control wheel relative to the crank arm urges the pin to move along an elongated slot of the crank arm toward and away from a drive axis to selectively adjust the effective crank arm length.
