Abstract: The invention relates to a modular system for multi-station patient (P1, P2, P3, P4) ventilation, comprising a control ventilator (1), operating in pressure mode, having a pneumatic output (2) and an expiratory port (3), and comprising at least one gas volume divider (Dl, D2) with input ports (10,14) and output ports (11,12,15,9), and also a manifold exhaust line (4), and characterized in that between the ventilator (1) and the gas volume dividers (D1, D2) there is a valve block (5) interconnected, with an input (6) and outputs (7,8), where the gas volume dividers (D1,D2) are connected to the valve block (5) in parallel, wherein each of the gas volume dividers (D1, D2), has a pneumatic system (21) for transporting gases connected to each of its two output ports (11, 12, 15, 9), the pneumatic system (21) containing an inspiratory valve (22) for connecting, during inspiration phase, the gas volume divider (D1, D2) with the patient (PI, P2,P3, P4) airways, and an expiratory valve (24) for connecting the patient (PI, P2, P3, P4) with the manifold expiratory line (4), wherein the gas transport system (21) further comprises a valve (26) for setting a minimum end-expiratory pressure of the patient (PI, P2, P3, P4) lungs, wherein the valve (26) is connected to the manifold expiratory line (4) connected to the expiratory port (3) of the ventilator.

Abstract: A ventilator comprising: a housing; a gas inlet port disposed in the housing and adapted to be coupled to a gas source to receive a flow of gas; a valve assembly coupled with the gas inlet port for controlling flow of gas from the gas inlet port to a gas outlet port disposed in the housing and adapted for being coupled to a patient interface to fluidly couple the gas outlet port to the airway of a patient; a controller module disposed in the housing, the controller module comprising a controller operatively coupled with the valve assembly to control operation of the valve assembly; an airway pressure sensor positioned between the valve assembly and the patient interface to measure air flow output into flowing into the airway of the patient; wherein the pressure sensor is operatively connected to said controller module to control the operation of the valve assembly in response to changes in air flow output measured by the airway pressure sensor during use.

Abstract: A system for use in the ventilation of a patient, particularly for a patient using a breathing circuit that is connected along with one or more other breathing circuits to a shared ventilator. The system employs a flow control valve on an inspire air line of an individual breathing circuit for that patient, and measures the tidal volume and pressure in the breathing circuit. A controller is provided with a user interface allowing a desired target volumetric measurement to be input. In response, a control signal is calculated and output to the valve causing the air supply on the inspire line to be adjusted until the measured tidal volume matches the desired volume within a given tolerance. In this way, patient safety is improved for a shared ventilator, by tailoring the ventilation on an individual breathing circuit using a single input value.

Abstract: The invention relates to a ventilator system comprising an inspiratory gas supply subsystem for supplying gas at a pressure above ambient atmospheric pressure, a ventilator module connectable therewith through a gas supply pipe system allowing gas communication, and comprising a gas discharge pipe system for discharging gas from the ventilator module, characterised by comprising a plurality of ventilator modules each having an inlet side and an outlet side, the gas supply pipe system comprising an inspiratory bus having a gas inlet segment and comprising a plurality of inspiratory pipes which are connected directly or indirectly to the inspiratory bus downstream of the gas inlet segment, each inspiratory pipe is connected to or connectable to the inlet side of one of the plurality of ventilator modules, and the inspiratory gas supply subsystem is connected to the gas inlet segment of the inspiratory bus for delivering inspiratory gas at a first pressure higher than the ambient atmospheric pressure into the gas inlet segment, the gas discharge pipe system comprising an expiratory bus having a gas outlet segment and comprising a plurality of expiratory pipes which are connected directly or indirectly to the expiratory bus upstream of the gas outlet segment, and each expiratory pipe is connectable to the outlet side of one of the plurality of ventilator modules, the ventilator system further comprising an expiratory gas discharge subsystem being in gas communication with the gas outlet segment of the expiratory bus for producing a second pressure lower than the ambient atmospheric pressure in the gas outlet segment.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems and methods are described, such as for providing, or controlling mechanical ventilation provided to, a patient. A controller may control a gas delivery system to deliver gas to the patient according to a FiO2 setting and a PEEP setting. The controller may adjust the FiO2 setting to an updated FiO2 setting based at least in part on a determined oxygen concentration of the patient's blood and may update the PEEP setting based at least in part on the updated FiO2 setting. Furthermore, the controller may update the PEEP setting based at least in part on the updated FiO2 setting and the current PEEP setting. An updated PEEP setting may be based at least in part on PEEP change eligibility rules and PEEP selection rules. The FiO2 setting may be adjusted so as to relatively rapidly increase the FiO2 setting in response to a rapidly decreasing patient SpO2.

Abstract: A method of, or system for, ventilating lungs in breathing and non-breathing patients--including applications for anesthesia--may comprise maintaining an inspiratory flow rate at an inspiratory setpoint at a low flow setting. Lung pressure in a patient may be regulated between a high pressure setpoint and a low pressure setpoint with periodic expiratory flows and continuous inspiratory flow. An expiratory control valve may be adjusted to an open position when a lung pressure is at or above a high pressure setpoint. An expiratory control valve may be adjusted to a closed position when a lung pressure is at or below a low pressure setpoint. Concurrent venting outflow and CO2 offloading through flow within the lungs may be facilitated by providing an intermittent expiratory flow to the patient while providing the continuous inspiratory flow.
