Abstract:
The disclosed method and system allow a user to conveniently access a webpage using a short code without typing a web address. To solicit a user to see a webpage, the user will be given a short code that is easy to remember instead of a full web address. Later, the user will send the code to a directing server, where a corresponding relationship between the short code and the intended web address has been previously recorded, and the user will be directed to the webpage. The supply of easy-to-memorize short codes is limited by the possible number of combinations of a few digits; however, this method and system can be universally used without feeling the lack of available codes because each short code is designed to be valid only in a limited geographic area and for a limited time frame.
Abstract:
A system for providing a geographic location based information having a server which comprises a transceiver which is operated to receive a request for the geographic location based information of the plurality of people and a processor to locate, to determine a count, to represent the count as a pair of counters in a plurality of blocks and update the count at each counter. A user interlace is configured to display the plurality of blocks with the pair of counters. The cloud server dynamically stores/updates user settings and interests of all network devices, stores advertisers static locations and updates ads based off users inputs and populates stored information on universal map shared by all users and also receives request to filter user's map by a Label and determines all users in viewing window of map that have that Label saved in their profiles and then sends results to the user.
Abstract:
A television signal processing system (20) having an emergency alert function is capable of receiving emergency alert signals and providing alert outputs to notify individuals of emergency events. According to one exemplary embodiment, the television signal processing system (20) includes a tuner (22, 42) operative to tune a frequency including emergency alert signals indicating an emergency event. A processor (26, 53) is operative to enable an alert output responsive to the emergency alert signals when the emergency event indicated by the emergency alert signals corresponds to a geographical area selectable by a user. According to another exemplary embodiment, the processor (26, 53) is operative to enable an alert output responsive to the emergency alert signals when the emergency event indicated by the emergency alert signals corresponds to a predetermined event selectable by a user.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture provide the ability to display personalized information on a television. A server obtains viewer-based information (400). The server then obtains customized information that is customized based on the viewer-based information (402). Audio/video information is then multiplexed with the customized information (404) and broadcast using a satellite/cable, etc (406). The broadcast multiplexed information is received in a set top box (e.g., by a location logic application) (408). The set top box causes the customized information to be displayed on a television communicatively coupled to the set top box (410).
Abstract:
An apparatus and method integrates cellular technology, global positioning system (GPS) technology and satellite radio technology. The components of the apparatus share resources, such as a power, dual GPS/satellite antennae, display screen and controls. The system provides an "on-demand" back channel, such as via the nationwide cellular phone network, that allows a satellite radio subscriber to order data on demand from the satellite radio provider, such as a particular list of songs or travel information. The invention utilizes the existing satellite radio infrastructure which is capable of delivering large amounts of streaming on-demand customized programming and information across a satellite channel to a subscriber's satellite radio decoder. By effectively utilizing the growth and momentum of satellite radio technology, the invention introduces new options for location based services (LBS). Using the existing satellite radio infrastructure minimizes the overall cost of delivery of location based services while allowing a wide range of service options.

Abstract:
Apparatus for, and method of, electronic ballotting where the identities of candidates are published together wiht respective telephone numbers. The candidates may be, for example, act in a talent competition broadcast as a television programme, and the respective telephone numbers are published by being included in the broadcast. Viewers can also send HTML pages containing voting information via the Internet to a server, which provides a count of the votes received for each candidate. A combiner is operative to retrieve the counts of answered calls made to the published numbers and the counts of votes received at the server, and to provide a ballot result. The ballot operator, e.g. the television programme producer, makes a single access call by telephone, or by a web enquiry page, and, after authorisation, is sent the ballot result.
Abstract:
A technology is disclosed for delivering an audible notification from a process control system (8) in a control room environment (10). The delivery is made by one or more first speakers (48) having a first coverage (56) for audible notifications and one or more second speakers (52, 54) having a second coverage (60, 62) for audible notifications. A determination if the location of an operator (26) is covered by the first coverage (56) is made. The audible notification is delivered by the one or more first speakers (48) if it is determined that the location of the operator (26) is covered by the first coverage (56). The audible notification is delivered by the one or more second speakers (52, 54) if it is determined that the location of the operator (26) is not covered by the first coverage (56).
Abstract:
A system and method for controlling a mobile device at a headend includes the mobile device communicating a request for content to the headend. The headend requests geographic coordinate location data from the mobile device and, when geographic coordinate data is available, determines a first geographic region associated with the mobile device in response to the geographic coordinate location data. When geographic coordinate data is not available from the mobile device, the headend extracts an IP address from the request and determines a second geographic region based on the IP address and a confidence level. When the confidence level is below a threshold, the headend determines a third geographic region based on subscriber data for the mobile device. The headend controls the mobile device in response to one of the first geographic region, the second geographic region and the third geographic region.
