Abstract:
To provide an aqueous dispersion of a resin wherein dispersed particles are stable with fine particle sizes and whereby bleeding out is suppressed, which is thus useful as e.g. a surface treating agent, an adhesive or a coating material for a polyolefin substrate. A resin dispersion having, dispersed in water with a 50% particle diameter of at most 0.5 µm, a polymer (C) having a hydrophilic polymer (B) or an acidic group bonded to a propylene/α-olefin copolymer (A) as a copolymer of propylene with an α-olefin other than propylene, wherein the copolymer (A) has a propylene content of at least 50 mol% and less than 100 mol%, and the copolymer (A) has a weight average molecular weight Mw of at least 10,000 and a molecular weight distribution Mw/Mn of at most 3.5; and the resin dispersion has a surfactant content of at most 15 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the polymer (C); and a coating material or laminate, made by using such a dispersion.

A polyester resin aqueous dispersion, comprising: a polyester resin (A) having a number-average molecular weight of 5,000 or more and a glass transition temperature of 50°C or higher and a polyester resin (B) having a number-average molecular weight of 9,000 or more and a glass transition temperature of 30°C or lower at a rate (A)/(B) in the range of 80/20 to 20/80 (by mass), giving a resin film superior in adhesive properties, without cracks, and superior in blocking resistance even when formed at low temperature, and superior in bonding properties even when heat-sealed at low temperature, a film obtained by removing an aqueous medium therefrom, and a packaging bag with the film heat-sealed.
Abstract:
An aqueous dispersion includes an associative thickener based on a hydrophobically modified poly(acetal- or ketal-polyether) (HM-PAPE) and at least one viscosity reducing agent selected from ethoxylated alcohols, ethoxylated acetyleneic diols, phosphate esters, dialkyl sulfosuccinates, and mixtures thereof. This aqueous dispersion improves the incorporation of the HM-PAPEs into aqueous based protective coatings. This dispersion also improves water-borne coating compositions that optionally contain latex.
Abstract:
A compound of the formula R1.[(AO)n.—R2]m (I) where: R1 is the residue of a group having at least m active hydrogen atoms; AO is an alkylene oxide residue; each n is independently from 1 to 100; m is at least 2; and each R2 is independently H, a C1 to C21 hydrocarbyl, or an acyl group —OC.R3, where R3 is a C1 to C21 hydrocarbyl group, wherein on average greater than one of the R2 groups is or comprises a C4 to C21 hydrocarbyl group comprising at least two ethylenic double bonds. The compounds are particularly suitable for use in preparing aqueous emulsions or dispersions of resins and polymers, especially alkyd resins.
Abstract:
A preparation method of a polyester resin includes: under predetermined depolymerization conditions, mixing a polyester resin, a resin dissolvent and a polycondensation catalyst to depolymerize the polyester resin and form a first reaction mixture; adding a first monomer to the first reaction mixture to form a second reaction mixture; under predetermined polymerization conditions, adding a second monomer to the second reaction mixture to polymerize the depolymerized polyester resin and form a third reaction mixture; and adding a neutralizing agent to neutralize the polymerized reaction product of the third reaction mixture.

A process of imparting water resistance to the components of a cable said process by first contacting one or more of said components of a cable with said pourable liquid composition, and then assembling the components to form the cable. The composition is particularly suitable for protecting optical fibres within a fibre optic cable against the ingress of water.
