In accordance with the present invention, there are provided low sulfated ash lubricating oil compositions which comprise an oil of lubricating viscosity as the major component and as the minor component (A) at least about 2 wt% of at least one ashless nitrogen- or ester-containing dispersant, (B) an antioxidant effective amount of at least one oil soluble antioxidant material, and (C) at least one oil soluble dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphate antiwear material wherein the hydrocarbyl groups contain an average of at least 3 carbon atoms, and wherein the lubricating oil is characterized by a total sulfated ash (SASH) level of from 0.01 to about 0.6 wt% and by a SASH:dispersant wt:wt ratio of from about 0.01 to about 0.2:1.

Oil soluble viscosity index improving additives comprising ethylene copolymers such as copolymers of ethylene and propylene; and ethylene, propylene and diolefin; etc. reacted or grafted with ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid moieties, preferably maleic anhydride moieties, and reacted with amines having two or more primary amine groups or at least one primary amine group and at least one secondary amine group preferably alkylene polyamine and with alkenyl succinic anhydride such as polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride, are improved by being further reacted with a lactone, preferably a lactone having at least 6 atoms in the lactone ring. The resulting lactone modified products are useful per se as oil soluble V.I. additives in fuel and lubricating compositions including concentrates containing the additives.

Oleaginous compositions, particularly lubricating oil compositions, exhibiting improved antioxidant properties containing a viscosity index improving amount of a viscosity index improver-dispersant comprised of the reaction products of: (a) an oil soluble ethylene copolymer comprising from about 15 to 90 wt.% ethylene and from about 10 to 85 wt.% of at least one C3 to C28 alpha-olefin, having a number average molecular weight of from about 5,000 to 500,000, grafted with an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid material having 1 or 2 acid or anhydride moieties; (b) an organic polyamine having at least two primary amino groups; (c) an aldehyde; (d) a heterocyclic nitrogen reactant having at least one -N(H)- group in the heterocyclic ring; and, optionally, (e) an amount effective to provide a V.I. improver-dispersant exhibiting improved low temperature viscometric properties of high functionality long chain hydrocarbyl substituted dicarboxylic acid material having a functionality of at least 1.2.

On application to sheet, e.g. of aluminium metal with a chromate or anodic oxide protective surface layer, the water and ammonia or volatile amine evaporate to leave a storage-stable hydrophobic lubricant. The sheet can be formed or made into adhesively bonded structures of shaped components.

Die Erfindung betrifft schwerentflammbare, wäßrige Hydraulikflüssigkeiten, die umweltverträglich sind und schmierende Eigenschaften haben. 2.1 Bekannte Hydraulikflüssigkeiten auf Basis von Öl-in-Wasser-Emulsionen (HFA) sind metastabile Systeme, so daß Temperaturschwankungen und Elektrolyte sich kritisch auf das System auswirken. Bei durch Polymere verdickten Systemen liegt eine nicht ausreichende Scherstabilität vor. Bei HFC-Flüssigkeiten sind hohe Einsatzkonzentrationen erforderlich, um eine Mindestviskosität zu erzeugen. Die neuen Hydraulikflüssigkeiten sollen diese Nachteile nicht aufweisen. 2.2 Es werden hierzu wäßrige Hydraulikflüssigkeiten vorgeschlagen, die 5 - 30 Gew.-% Alkylpolyglcosid und bis zu 20 Gew.-% tensidische Additive sowie bis zu 10 Gew.-% andere übliche Additive enthalten. Diese neuen Hydraulikflüssigkeiten besitzen bei niedriger Wirkstoffkonzentration günstige Schmierwirkungen.
