A calculation and prediction algorithm for the accumulator's service life can be connected to the service, calculating the estimate on the accumulator's remaining service life based on accelerated life testing and measurement results as well as different kinds of prediction data. This data with instructions can be transmitted to the user (65) of the vehicle, for example, to their mobile phone (66). The measurement data can also be transmitted directly from the monitoring apparatus (14) to the user's own terminal device (13) without a separate server via Bluetooth or WLAN connection. The method also comprises the detection and locating of accumulators (11) at the end of their service life by means of a positioning signal, which can be observed with a fixed (41) or mobile (42) receiver device.
