Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Erkennung von Objekten (11) mit geringer Höhe mit einem System zur Hinderniserkennung in Fahrzeugen (3), wobei das System zur Hinderniserkennung Abstandssensoren (13) zur Ermittlung des Abstandes zu Objekten (11) und mittels Auswertung umfasst. Das Verfahren umfasst folgende Schritte: (a) Kontinuierliches Erfassen des Abstandes zu einem Objekt (11) mittels der Abstandssensoren (13) oder Erfassen des Abstandes zu einem Objekt (11) in vorgegebenen Intervallen, (b) Prüfen, ob das Objekt(11) beim Annähern an das Fahrzeug (3) bei Unterschreiten eines vorgegebenen Abstandes von den Abstandssensoren (13) weiter erfasst wird oder aus dem Detektionsbereich der Abstandssensoren (13) verschwindet, (c) Erkennen des Objekts (11), das aus dem Detektionsbereich der Abstandssensoren (13) verschwindet, als Objekt (11) mit geringer Höhe. Weiterhin betrifft die Erfindung auch ein Verfahren zur Unterstützung eines Fahrers bei einem Fahrmanöver.

The invention relates to a method for recognizing the surface characteristics of traffic objects or individuals, especially of pedestrians, vehicles, obstacles and the like. According to said method, signals are emitted by a vehicle and are reflected by an individual or an object, and the reflected signals are received and evaluated by the vehicle. The invention is characterized in that the emitted signals are transmitter pulses the echo pulses of which are received and that based on the signal characteristics of the echo pulses conclusions are drawn regarding the surface characteristics. These characteristics are then used to decide whether an individual or an object is positioned in front of the vehicle.
