    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine, which can suppress variation in an intake air amount between cylinders while sufficiently exerting the effect of improving fuel economy.
    SOLUTION: When detected variation in lift amount and detected variation in working angle between cylinders are larger than a reference value, a mean value of valve closing timing of an intake valve on the most advanced side and valve closing timing of the intake valve on the most delayed side is calculated (a step 112). Target valve closing timing of the intake valve is set so that the calculated mean value becomes the bottom dead center (a step 114). Since the variation in position of a piston in closing the intake valve becomes minimum, the variation in intake air amount between cylinders is sufficiently suppressed. Valve closing timing of an exhaust valve is set to be the same as valve opening timing of the intake valve or to be on the more delayed side than the valve opening timing of the intake valve (a step 116).
