PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously producing an aromatic unsaturated compound represented by formula (4) (wherein Ar is an aromatic group which may be substituted or a hetero-aromatic group which may be substituted; Y is an electron-attracting group) in high atom economy by using a compound represented by formula (1) (wherein Ar is the same as described above) as a raw material. SOLUTION: The method for producing the aromatic unsaturated compound represented by formula (4) comprises reacting a compound represented by formula (1) with a compound represented by formula (2) (wherein Y is the same as described above; Z is a lower alkoxy group) or a compound represented by formula (3) (wherein Y and Z are each the same as described above) in the presence of an acid or a compound generating the acid by hydrolysis.
