A laminated material for the manufacture of packing containers with good gas and aroma barrier properties, and a method for the manufacture of the laminated material. The laminated material has a base layer (18) and a barrier layer (19) of inorganic material of a thickness of only 50-500 Å serving as a gas and aroma barrier. The barrier layer (19) is applied to the base layer (18) by means of vacuum deposition and bonded to the base layer by means of at least one intermediate layer (22) of bonding agent. To facilitate the conversion of the material to packing containers the barrier layer (19) is omitted along such areas (17a and 17b) of the material which are intended to be folded against, and combined with, one another by heat-sealing during the manufacture of the said containers.

The laminate material comprises a first layer including biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate, a second layer of a high barrier oxide material disposed exterior to the first layer, and a third layer of an adhesive material disposed interior to the first layer and joining the first layer to a fourth coextruded multilayer material. The fourth coextruded multilayer material comprises from exterior to interior: i) a first layer of a polyethylene material, ii) an oxygen scavenging layer comprising a polyethylene and an oxygen scavenger material, wherein the oxygen scavenging layer is disposed interior to the first layer of the polyethylene material, and iii) a second layer of the polyethylene material disposed interior to the oxygen scavenging layer. A further laminate structure suitable for forming a package containing an oxygen sensitive product is also disclosed. The further laminate comprises a first layer comprising biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate, biaxially oriented polyamide, or biaxially oriented polypropylene, a second layer of a high barrier oxide material disposed interior to the first layer, and a third layer of an adhesive material disposed interior to the second layer and joining the second layer to a fourth layer of a polyethylene material. The third layer of adhesive material includes an oxygen scavenger material.

The present invention is drawn to a strip tape which does not undergo lowering of bonding force and which does not cause pollution of the natural environment, working environment, etc. The strip tape includes a center layer containing a polar resin, and at least one polyolefin layer laminated, via a bonding layer, on each face of the center layer. The bonding layer contains an ethylene-methacrylic acid-alkyl acrylate random copolymer. Since the strip tape includes a center layer and at least one polyolefin layer, the interlayer bonding force of the strip tape is high, the bonding strength between the center layer and the polyolefin layer can be increased, and the waterproofing property of the strip tape can be enhanced. Even when a packaging container including the strip tape is heated or cooled sharply during use, the interlayer bonding force of the strip tape is not lowered.
