Abstract: A sound reduction assembly includes a housing and a component supported via the housing. The component is movable relative to the housing. The sound reduction assembly includes a ring coupled to the component and the housing. The ring is configured to attenuate sound inducing vibrations in response to operation of the component. The ring includes a flange fixed relative to the housing to maintain a position of the ring relative to the component which maximizes attenuation of the sound in response to operation of the component. A method of utilizing a ring to attenuate sound inducing vibrations in response to operation of a component inside of a housing. A torque is selected to be applied to the ring. A stiffness of the ring is determined based on a stiffness-torque curve utilizing the selected torque to maximize attenuation of the sound. The ring is manufactured to meet the determined stiffness.

Abstract: An automotive propulsion system, a final drive assembly, and a bearing assembly are disclosed. The ball bearing assembly includes a bearing race structure having an inner race and an outer race, where the outer race is disposed concentrically about the inner race. A number of rotatable bearing elements (e.g., balls) are disposed between the inner race and the outer race. The bearing race structure has a plurality of threads extending therefrom (from either the outer race or the inner race). The bearing race structure is connected by the plurality of threads to an adjacent structure to prevent relative movement of the bearing race structure with respect to the adjacent structure.

Abstract: A bearing outer face construction system includes a bearing having a bearing outer race. The bearing outer race includes an outer race surface. At least one circumferential groove is recessed into the bearing outer race. An expanding member is received in the at least one circumferential groove. A housing receives the bearing having a gap between a housing inner face and the bearing outer race. The expanding member expands to radially extend across the gap into direct contact with the housing inner face to mitigate against motion between the bearing and the housing inner face.

Abstract: A gear box having a carburized shaft and steel bearing assembly. The bearing includes an inner-race and an outer-race. The shaft includes a distal end surface extending perpendicularly from a shaft faying surface and a shaft annular beveled edge. The shaft faying surface is in intimate contact with the inner-race. The inner-race second annular face is coplanar with the distal end surface. The shaft annular beveled edge cooperates with the inner-race faying surface to define a half-V shaped groove. An annular weld joint is formed in the half-V shaped groove thereby joining the shaft to the inner-race. The outer-race includes a first width (W1) and the inner-race includes a second width (W2).
