    Abstract: An airflow control system includes a valve including a valve disk rotatable within a flow control duct and a valve actuator connected to the valve disk. The valve actuator is operable to adjust a position the valve disk. A pneumatic controller is configured to regulate a pressure within the flow control duct downstream of the valve disk by adjusting the position of the valve disk when the pressure within the flow control duct downstream of the valve disk exceeds a regulation pressure set point. A torque motor is fluidly connected to the valve actuator and a digital controller is operably coupled to the torque motor. The digital controller is configured to regulate the pressure within the flow control duct downstream of the valve disk independently from the pneumatic controller.

    Abstract: A bleed valve includes a housing with an inlet coupled to an outlet by a duct. A guide tube is fixed within the housing between the inlet and the outlet. A piston with a piston orifice is slideably supported on the guide tube and movable between an open position and a closed position. The duct fluidly couples the inlet to the outlet in the open position, the duct fluidly separates the inlet from the outlet in the closed position, and the piston orifice fluidly couples the inlet with the outlet in the open position and the closed position to move piston between the open position and the closed position according to differential in pressure between the inlet and the outlet of the bleed valve. Compressors, gas turbine engines, and methods of controlling fluid flow are also described.

    Abstract: A valve assembly includes a piston housing inside a flow duct between an inlet and an outlet so as to form an annular flow passage between the flow duct and the piston housing. The piston housing is axially aligned with a center axis of the flow duct. A piston is inside the piston housing and is configured to extend downstream of the piston housing in a closed position. A spring biases the piston to the open position. A fluid chamber is between the piston and an upstream end of the piston housing. A control opening extends through the upstream end of the piston housing and fluidically communicates with the flow duct and the fluid chamber. A control piston and a control spring are inside the piston housing. The control spring biases the control piston toward a first position that obstructs the control opening.

The valve includes a valve piston movably disposed within the piston housing, the valve piston including an upstream side and a downstream side. The valve also includes a control mechanism disposed at least partially within the housing and configured to port outlet static pressure to the upstream cavity in a first state such that pressure is equalized on the valve piston.

    Abstract: A valve assembly comprises a closure element disposed in a flow control duct, a fluid-driven actuator assembly, a shaft operable to translate linear movement of the actuator assembly into rotation of the closure element, and an integral filter and pressure regulator unit disposed in line with an actuator fluid supply passage. The actuator fluid supply passage extends between the flow control duct and the actuator assembly. The integral filter and pressure regulator unit includes a regulator housing having at least one cylindrical wall surrounding a vent cavity and a regulator cavity. Filter media is secured to the regulator housing and is disposed across a regulator orifice in communication with the regulator cavity.

    Abstract: A ball valve includes a housing and has an inlet port, an outlet port and a central ball chamber. A ball member is received within the ball chamber and has a shaft connected to a motor such that the ball member can be rotated. The ball member is movable between a closed position at which it blocks fluid connection between the inlet port and the outlet port and to an open position at which a central passage in the ball member communicates the inlet port to the outlet port. A seal is mounted for movement with the ball member to provide a seal against the housing. A ball valve system is also disclosed.
