    摘要： An oil pump for a lubricating system of an outboard motor is disclosed. The motor has a cowling defining an engine compartment, a water propulsion device, and a guide member having an upper surface and a lower surface, the guide member positioned in the cowling and generally dividing the engine compartment into an upper part and a lower part. An engine is positioned in the upper part of the engine compartment within the cowling and has an output shaft arranged to drive the water propulsion device. The lubricating system includes an oil pan positioned below the guide member and an oil passage leading from the pan through the guide member. The oil pump is positioned in the upper part of the engine compartment, but below the engine, and is driven by a lower end of the output shaft of the engine which extends below the engine, the oil pump having an oil inlet in communication with the oil passage through the guide member.

    摘要： An induction system for an outboard motor of the type having a water propulsion device powered by an internal combustion engine positioned within an engine compartment defined by a cowling, is disclosed. The induction system includes a cover extending over a top end of the engine. The cover defines an air duct leading from an intake chamber defined by the cowling to an intake pipe of the air intake system of the engine. The cover also defines an air duct in communication with the engine compartment and leading to an exhaust chamber defined by the cowling. A pair of intake ports lead through a cover of the cowling from the intake chamber, and an exhaust port leads through the cover from the exhaust chamber. The intake ports are positioned forward of the exhaust port when considering the forward movement of a watercraft which is powered by the motor.

    摘要： A crankcase arrangement for an engine includes an improved construction that allows lubricant to more freely flow through the crankcase and to quickly return to a lubricant reservoir even though the engine has a compact construction. A cylinder body of an exemplifying engine includes at least an upper bearing portion, intermediate bearing portion and lower bearing portion. A crankcase member, which defines a crankcase cavity with the cylinder body, includes an upper bearing section and a lower bearing section. An upper main bearing journal of a crankshaft is rotatably journaled between the upper bearing portion and the upper bearing section and a lower main bearing journal of the crankshaft is rotatably journaled between the lower bearing portion and the lower bearing section. A bearing cap is arranged to rotatably journal the crankshaft with the intermediate bearing portion. In a preferred form, the bearing cap includes a plurality of cap sections that are joined together. Each cap section cooperates with a corresponding intermediate bearing portion of the cylinder body. Intermediate main bearings, which are formed by the cooperating cap sections and intermediate bearing portions, journal the crankshaft at a plurality of locations between the upper and lower main bearing journals of the crankshaft.

    摘要： An outboard motor having a multi-cylinder four-cycle, internal combustion engine as a power plant. An improved crankcase ventilating system is provided wherein the crankcase ventilating gases follow a circuitous path through the crankcase chamber, camshaft chambers and then to the intake system through an extended conduit passing over the exhaust manifold so as to reduce the emissions of hydrocarbons. The intake system is designed to preclude uneven distribution of the ventilating gases. The intake system also is comprised of a plenum device, a plurality of runners and throttle bodies and an intake manifold that are attached as a unit to the rest of the engine body. Portions of this unit are formed from a synthetic resin.
