摘要: An outboard motor comprises a cowling, having a top cowling and a bottom cowling, that cooperate to define an engine compartment. An intake air duct draws outside air into the engine compartment. A water collecting part is arranged in the bottom cowling for accumulating water that may enter the cowling through the air duct. A water passage may also be provided for guiding water from the intake air duct to the water collecting part. The water passage may have air openings for allowing air to enter the engine compartment independent of the water. A floor of the engine compartment may be adapted to contain water splashing and direct water to a water collecting part.

摘要: An engine lubrication control includes an improved construction. The engine has a lubrication device that delivers lubricant to a crankcase of the engine in following rotational speed of a crankshaft rotating in the crankcase. The lubricant device includes an adjustment mechanism for adjusting a volume of the lubricant. The adjustment mechanism has at least two positions and increases the lubricant volume delivered when the mechanism is located at one of the positions relative to when the mechanism is located at the other position.

摘要: A lubricating system is disclosed for an engine arranged such that the crankshaft is vertically oriented. The crankshaft rotates within a crankcase chamber defined by the cylinder block and a crankcase cover connected thereto. First crankshaft support members which support half-bearings extend from the cylinder block. Mating half-bearings are supported by second crankshaft support members positioned opposite the first crankshaft support members. A baffle plate is positioned in the crankcase chamber between the crankcase cover and the crankshaft. At least one oil flow passage is defined through the crankcase chamber from a top end to a bottom end of the chamber. In one embodiment, oil is supplied through a main passage in the crankcase cover and a branch passage through each second crankshaft support members for lubricating the bearings.

摘要: A number of the embodiments of exhaust systems and oil tank arrangements for four-cycle internal combustion engine powered outboard motors. In all of the embodiments, idle exhaust gases are discharged to the atmosphere through a path that extends above the oil tank. A cooling jacket is formed around an exhaust pipe that depends through a cavity in the oil tank and coolant from this cooling jacket is discharged to the exterior surface of the exhaust pipe so as to cool it. Cooling water from the engine and from the exhaust pipe cooling jacket is isolated from the idle exhaust gas discharge so as to ensure that this cooling water cannot enter the engine through the idle exhaust gas discharge path.

摘要: A latching assembly for engaging and disengaging an upper cover portion and lower tray portion of a cowling of an outboard engine. The lower tray portion includes a recess in which part of the latching assembly is located. The latching assembly includes a shaft mounted to the lower tray portion. A latch is rotatably secured to the shaft and movable between an engaged and a disengaged position. The latch is disposed within the recess when engaged so that is is flush with the exterior of the cowling. A catch is mounted to the upper cover portion and is engageable by the latch hook. A mechanism for biasing the latch to the engaged or disengaged position is provided for preventing the latch from moving from the engaged or disengaged position.

摘要: An outboard motor has a cowling for enclosing an engine. Air inlet openings are formed in the cowling. An air intake chamber connects the air inlet openings and an air intake duct. Air that flows through the air inlet openings passes through the air intake chamber to the air intake duct. The air is then introduced into the engine. A front wall of the air intake chamber has a center portion positioned rearwardly of outer portions of the front wall. The air intake duct is positioned rearwardly of the front wall of the air intake chamber. The air inlet openings are positioned on both sides of the air intake duct. A rear wall is positioned rearwardly of the air intake duct. Each of the air inlet openings extends from the rear wall to one of the outer ends of the front wall of the air intake chamber.

摘要: A lubrication system of an outboard motor delivers lubricant to an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine is supported by an upper end of a case. The lubrication system has an oil pan configured to hold lubricant oil. An oil conduit has a lower end opening to the oil pan. An upper end of the oil conduit extends towards the internal combustion engine. An oil pump delivers the lubricant oil towards the internal combustion engine through the oil conduit. The oil pump is located in the vicinity of a front part of the oil pan as viewed from the side of the outboard motor. An inside bottom surface of the oil pan defines a lower bottom portion and an upper bottom portion. The lower bottom portion is located under the lower end of the oil conduit. The upper bottom portion of the oil pan is positioned rearward of the lower bottom portion.

摘要: Two embodiments of outboard motor constructions that employ an improved mounting arrangement for certain electrical components such as ECUs and rectifier regulator units. The mounting arrangement places these components in proximity to the intake system for the engine so that the flow of intake air to the engine will assist in cooling the electrical components. A shrouding arrangement is also provided so as to protect the components from water vapor while not inhibiting the cooling air flow.

摘要: A number of embodiments of four cycle outboard motors that have water cooled engines and an oil pan that is formed in the upper portion of the drive shaft housing. An exhaust pipe collects exhaust gases from an exhaust guide and delivers to a cavity that is formed in the oil pan by an interior wall thereof. The exhaust pipe does not terminate below the lower surface of the oil pan and several arrangements are disclosed for delivering idle exhaust gases to the area between the exterior of the exhaust pipe and the interior surface of the oil pan that defines the cavity. Various arrangements are disclosed for conveying idle exhaust gases to this area and discharging them to the atmosphere through and above the water exhaust gas discharge. These arrangements incorporate a system for precluding water from entering into the engine through its exhaust system including the idle discharge.
