摘要: An oil pump for a lubricating system of an outboard motor is disclosed. The motor has a cowling defining an engine compartment, a water propulsion device, and a guide member having an upper surface and a lower surface, the guide member positioned in the cowling and generally dividing the engine compartment into an upper part and a lower part. An engine is positioned in the upper part of the engine compartment within the cowling and has an output shaft arranged to drive the water propulsion device. The lubricating system includes an oil pan positioned below the guide member and an oil passage leading from the pan through the guide member. The oil pump is positioned in the upper part of the engine compartment, but below the engine, and is driven by a lower end of the output shaft of the engine which extends below the engine, the oil pump having an oil inlet in communication with the oil passage through the guide member.

摘要: An induction system for an outboard motor of the type having a water propulsion device powered by an internal combustion engine positioned within an engine compartment defined by a cowling, is disclosed. The induction system includes a cover extending over a top end of the engine. The cover defines an air duct leading from an intake chamber defined by the cowling to an intake pipe of the air intake system of the engine. The cover also defines an air duct in communication with the engine compartment and leading to an exhaust chamber defined by the cowling. A pair of intake ports lead through a cover of the cowling from the intake chamber, and an exhaust port leads through the cover from the exhaust chamber. The intake ports are positioned forward of the exhaust port when considering the forward movement of a watercraft which is powered by the motor.

摘要: Two embodiments of outboard motor constructions that employ an improved mounting arrangement for certain electrical components such as ECUs and rectifier regulator units. The mounting arrangement places these components in proximity to the intake system for the engine so that the flow of intake air to the engine will assist in cooling the electrical components. A shrouding arrangement is also provided so as to protect the components from water vapor while not inhibiting the cooling air flow.

摘要: An outboard motor comprises a cowling, having a top cowling and a bottom cowling, that cooperate to define an engine compartment. An intake air duct draws outside air into the engine compartment. A water collecting part is arranged in the bottom cowling for accumulating water that may enter the cowling through the air duct. A water passage may also be provided for guiding water from the intake air duct to the water collecting part. The water passage may have air openings for allowing air to enter the engine compartment independent of the water. A floor of the engine compartment may be adapted to contain water splashing and direct water to a water collecting part.

摘要: A lubricating system is disclosed for an engine arranged such that the crankshaft is vertically oriented. The crankshaft rotates within a crankcase chamber defined by the cylinder block and a crankcase cover connected thereto. First crankshaft support members which support half-bearings extend from the cylinder block. Mating half-bearings are supported by second crankshaft support members positioned opposite the first crankshaft support members. A baffle plate is positioned in the crankcase chamber between the crankcase cover and the crankshaft. At least one oil flow passage is defined through the crankcase chamber from a top end to a bottom end of the chamber. In one embodiment, oil is supplied through a main passage in the crankcase cover and a branch passage through each second crankshaft support members for lubricating the bearings.

摘要: A number of the embodiments of exhaust systems and oil tank arrangements for four-cycle internal combustion engine powered outboard motors. In all of the embodiments, idle exhaust gases are discharged to the atmosphere through a path that extends above the oil tank. A cooling jacket is formed around an exhaust pipe that depends through a cavity in the oil tank and coolant from this cooling jacket is discharged to the exterior surface of the exhaust pipe so as to cool it. Cooling water from the engine and from the exhaust pipe cooling jacket is isolated from the idle exhaust gas discharge so as to ensure that this cooling water cannot enter the engine through the idle exhaust gas discharge path.

摘要: An outboard motor has a cowling for enclosing an engine. Air inlet openings are formed in the cowling. An air intake chamber connects the air inlet openings and an air intake duct. Air that flows through the air inlet openings passes through the air intake chamber to the air intake duct. The air is then introduced into the engine. A front wall of the air intake chamber has a center portion positioned rearwardly of outer portions of the front wall. The air intake duct is positioned rearwardly of the front wall of the air intake chamber. The air inlet openings are positioned on both sides of the air intake duct. A rear wall is positioned rearwardly of the air intake duct. Each of the air inlet openings extends from the rear wall to one of the outer ends of the front wall of the air intake chamber.

摘要: A fuel system arrangement for an engine positioned in a cowling of an outboard motor is disclosed. The engine has a first end and a second end and comprises a cylinder block with a cylinder head connected to the cylinder block at the first end of the engine and cooperating therewith to define at least one combustion chamber, and a crankcase positioned at the second end of the engine. The engine includes an intake system for providing air to the combustion chamber, the intake system including at least one intake runner extending along a side of the engine defined between the first and second ends, the runner having a passage therethrough leading to a passage extending through the cylinder head to the combustion chamber. The fuel system includes a fuel supply unit for delivering fuel from a fuel supply to at least one charge former, the charge former arranged to provide fuel to the combustion chamber for combustion therein, the fuel supply unit positioned at the first or second end of the engine.

摘要: An exhaust system for an outboard motor powered by an internal combustion engine is disclosed. Preferably, the engine is of the "V"-type, having first and second banks defined by first and second cylinder heads connected to a cylinder block. Each bank contains at least one combustion chamber, and the banks define a valley extending therebetween along a length of the engine. A main exhaust passage is defined through each cylinder head generally within the valley, and an exhaust passage extends from each combustion chamber of a bank to the main exhaust passage of that bank. The main exhaust passages of the two banks join into a single passage.
