Abstract: A structure includes a thermoplastic foam body having first and second major surfaces, and channels extending partially or fully through the foam body and terminating at one or both major surfaces. The surfaces of some or all of the channels are reinforced, providing the structure with increased compressive strength. The structure, which can include a skin on either or both of the major surfaces, is useful for forming aviation interior components, including aviation overhead containers, aviation interior wall panels, and aviation trays.

Abstract: A system comprises a build area, a precursor feed system to feed polyimide precursor to the build area, and a laser system comprising a laser device to emit a focused energy beam onto the build area, and a laser actuator to aim the focused energy onto selected target locations of the build area in order to selectively initiate polymerization of at least a portion of the polyimide precursor into a structure including polyimide. A method comprises feeding a polyimide precursor to a build area and selectively directing a focused energy beam to the build area to selectively initiate polymerization of at least a portion of the polyimide precursor into a structure including polyimide.

Abstract: This disclosure includes armrests having one or more laminates and methods and kits for making the same. Some armrests include an elongated beam extending between a first end and a second end, the elongated beam having one or more laminates configured to be disposed along the elongated beam, each including a plurality of fibers dispersed within a matrix material, and a reinforcing structure having a plurality of ribs, the reinforcing structure configured to be coupled to the one or more laminates, where the first end of the elongated beam is configured to be pivotally coupled to a mount. In some armrests, the one or more laminates are configured to be disposed along the elongated beam such that the one or more laminates define a channel and/or an arch extending between the first and second ends.
