Abstract:
A steel piston with a piston upper part (12) with combustion chamber recess (11) and ring wall (5), and with a piston lower part (13) with piston body or piston skirt and with connecting rod bearing (8) for internal combustion engines with cylinder crankcases made of lightweight metal alloys, with at least the piston lower part consisting of a steel alloy which has a coefficient of thermal expansion in the range from 13 to 20×10−6 1/K.
Abstract:
A cylinder head for internal combustion engines, comprising a metallic valve seat ring that is formed by a thermally sprayed homogeneous layer made of a basic Co or Co/Mo alloy. The sum of the Co content and Mo content in the alloy exceeds 50 percent by weight while the Fe content lies below 5 percent by weight. Also disclosed is a method for thermally spraying said valve seat ring by means of an arc wire spraying process with the aid of at least two filler wires and/or composite wires, the essential Co portion in the deposited layer being delivered by the jacket of the filler wire and/or the matrix of the composite wire.

Abstract:
A process for producing a ceramic-metal composite, includes (1) mixing TiO2, and optionally Ti, with at least one of a boron-containing or carbon-containing material to give a green body mix; (2) heat treating the green body mix to a temperature from 900° C. to 1900° C. and below a temperature which leads to an autocatalytic reaction; (3) carrying out an exchange reaction between the material and the TiO2 to give a reaction product comprising at least one of TiBx and TiCy, wherein 0≦x 23 2 and 0≦y≦1; (4) producing a porous green body from the reaction product; (5) filling the porous green body with liquid aluminum after the exchange reaction; and (6) carrying out a reaction between the reaction product in the green body and the aluminum to form the ceramic-metal composite comprising a ceramic phase selected from the group consisting of TiBx-, TiCy-, TiCN- and Al2O3 and a comprising a metallic phase comprising an intermetallic compound of Ti and Al.
Abstract:
An A-pillar on a motor vehicle is provided with a windshield flange for the securing of a windshield. The A-pillar is of single-part design in the region of the windshield and a wall region forming the windshield flange bounds a hollow cross section of the A-pillar. The windshield can be integrated indirectly in the A-pillar, which leads to a reduction in viewing angle obscuration.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an electric arc wire burner for spraying an electric arc, comprising at least two burner tubes (3) for feeding electrodes which are embodied in the form of wire (5). Said electrodes are guided through the burner tube (3) in the direction of the surface of the object which is to be coated. The wire (5) is guided by a deflection device (7) comprising a number of rotationally mounted guiding elements and/or sliding elements (8) and the wire (5) is deformed in an elastic area.

Abstract:
A reinforcing fiber, in particular for fiber composite materials, has a core which is provided with a layer of a pyrolysable binder. A coating of pyrolytic carbon or sugar is provided between the core and the layer fiber strands are provided with reinforcing fibers of this type and fiber strands are coated in this way. Fiber composite materials can be prepared with these reinforcing fibers. Processes for producing reinforcing fibers and composite materials involve coating fiber strands.
Abstract:
A method for surface working a tribological coating of a supereutectic aluminum-silicon alloy or an aluminum-silicon composite material with a coating structure includes machining the surface dry, without lubricant, in a one-step process, with a cutting tool having a cutting material containing diamond. The surface treating may be followed by a one-step finish honing or one-step texturing process.
Abstract:
A brake unit includes a brake disc of a ceramic material and a brake pad that cooperates with it in tribological fashion. The brake pad is made of a sintered metal material or of an inorganically bound material having a ceramic binding phase and metal particles. The brake unit has a high thermal loading capacity, very good performance characteristics in terms of comfort, and an acceptable service life.
