Venting difficulties in a heat battery including a first container (10) for housing a heat storage salt that may be in the solid phase or in the liquid phase, a heat exchanger (22) within the container (10) and a second container (12) surrounding the first container (10) in generally spaced relation to provide an insulating space (14) about the first container (10) along with coolant inlet and outlet connections (40, 42) to the heat exchanger (22) are avoided in a vent system (52) including a vent inlet (66) generally centrally located in the top wall (56) of the first container (10) generally centrally of the ends thereof. A vent passage includes a check valve (106) located in close proximity to the vent opening (66) and the vent opening is surrounded by a cup shaped baffle (60) having an opening (62) facing the interior of the container (10). A filter (78) is located between the check valve (106) and the opening (62) to the baffle (60). The check valve (106) is located in a valve housing (104) which itself serves as a safety valve to vent pressure in the event the check valve (106) malfunctions.

A heat exchanger including a plurality of longitudinal flat tubes stacked together with space between the broad sides of adjacent tubes, and inlet and outlet collecting tanks. The inlet collecting tank distributes a first medium into the tubes, and has a wall extending around the periphery of one end the stack of flat tubes over a selected longitudinal section, the wall having at least one of an inlet and outlet for a second medium distributed in the space between the stacked tubes. The outlet collecting tank receives the first medium from the tubes. Longitudinal internal inserts in the flat tubes are metallically connected to the broad sides of the associated flat tube. At least one row of cutouts is between the longitudinal ends of the internal inserts and in the selected longitudinal section, with the row of cutouts extending substantially across the broad width of the insert.

A heat exchanger with a plurality of stacked flat tubes and a collecting tank having a wall extending around the entire periphery of, and connected to, the end of the stacked flat tubes. A first medium may be distributed through the collecting tank and flat tubes. Internal inserts are in the flat tubes, with the inserts being bonded between the broad sides of the tubes and, in the region of connection of the tubes to the collecting tank, being configured to compensate for length changes in the stacking direction caused by temperature changes, as by recesses in connectors such as wave flanks or by corrugated wave flanks. The flat tubes with inserts such as described may be separately provided for use in manufacture of heat exchangers.

A method is described for the preparation of optically active hydroxamic acids of the general formula wherein R1, R2 and R3 are different and are a cyclic or linear, aliphatic or aromatic, substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon radical which can optionally contain heteroatoms, said method being characterized in that a racemate of chiral amides, carboxylic acid esters or carboxylic acids of the general formula wherein R1, R2 and R3 are as defined above and X is —NH2, —OR or —OH, R being any organic radical, is reacted with hydroxylamine, NH2OH, in the presence of an acyltransferase, and the optically active hydroxamic acid (I) formed is then separated from the unconverted enantiomer of general formula (II). The resulting optically active hydroxamic acid can be converted to the corresponding optically active primary amines by a Lossen rearrangement.

A system and method for producing flat tubes is described and illustrated. The flat tubes can be produced from at least one strip of endless band material having at least one wall part and an inner part formed with corrugations on a roller train provided with roller pairs, with the strip running in a longitudinal direction through the rollers and being shaped. The inner part of the flat tube can be formed with corrugations placed between the shaped wall parts, after which the closure of the flat tube is carried out. Production of the flat tubes can include forming spaced apart band thinning lines running in the longitudinal direction of the strip, and forming corrugation peaks and corrugation troughs at the band thinning lines.

A heat exchanger and a method of manufacturing a heat exchanger are described and shown. In some embodiments, the heat exchanger has a brazed core with flat metal tubes and flat metal tube ends received in corresponding openings defined in a collecting tank, and has a plurality of adhesive connections each with an annular space around a flat tube end and defined at least in part by the collecting tank, an addition-crosslinking silicone adhesive located within the annular space, and a mounting plate at least partially closing each annular space. In some embodiments, a method for producing an adhesive connection for flat metal tube ends in corresponding openings of a collecting tank of a heat exchanger is provided, and includes pushing an addition-crosslinking type silicone adhesive into annular spaces located between each flat tube end and a corresponding opening of the collecting tank with a mounting plate, at least partially filling the annular spaces by pushing the silicone adhesive into the annular spaces with the mounting plate, and closing the annular spaces with the mounting plate.

The invention provides for a manufacturing process of a heat exchanger having a flat tube and fin core. The flat tube and fin core is formed in such a way that free flat tube ends are provided, wherein the flat tube and fin core is brazed in a brazing furnace, and wherein the flat tube ends are received in receptacle openings of a mounting plate and a header forming an enclosed space for receiving a bonding agent for coupling the flat tube ends to the header and mounting plate.

An economically manufactured heat exchanger is provided and includes a plurality of elongated, straight, flat tubes (16), each formed of two identical halves (78,80) joined to each other in mirror image fashion and each having opposed open ends and all arranged in a stack (18). At least one spacer wall (36) is disposed within each tube and extends generally from end to end thereof to define at least two side-by-side first fluid flow paths within a tube. An elongated housing (10) contains the stack and includes spaced headers (20,22) with each header including a tube slot for the adjacent end of each tube (16) in the stack (18). Spacers (26) in the stack separate adjacent tubes in the stack from one another and the spacers include ribs defining a serpentine flow path for a second fluid. An opening (30) is located in the housing (10) near each end thereof and is in fluid communication with the second fluid flow path (28).
