Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for identifying different structure types with distinct composition in vivo and adjusting surgical laser output accordingly in a medical procedure are disclosed. An exemplary laser treatment system comprises a laser system configured to generate a laser beam for delivery to a target in a body, and a controller circuit configured to receive a signal reflected from the target in response to electromagnetic radiation produced by a light source, and generate one or more spectroscopic properties from the reflected signal. The controller circuit can identify the target as one of a plurality of structure types, such as tissue types or calculi types with respective compositions, using the one or more spectroscopic properties. The laser system can be controlled to operate in an operating mode based on the target identification.

Abstract: An exemplary treatment system can be provided which can include a laser system configured to emit at least one laser beam, and an optical system configured to focus the laser beam(s) to a focal region at a selected distance from a surface of a tissue. The focal region can be configured to illuminate at least a portion of a target. The optical system can cause an irradiation energy transferred to the focal region of the laser beam(s) to (i) generate a plasma in a first region of the tissue adjacent to the target, and (ii) avoid a generation of a plasma in a second region of the tissue. The optical system has a numerical aperture that is in the range of about 0.5 to about 0.9. An exemplary method can also be provided to control such treatment system.

Abstract: Provided are a method for adjusting an in-tank pressure of a working medium storage tank and an apparatus for the same. The method includes: acquiring a backflow temperature collected by each of first thermocouples; counting the number of target backflow paths whose backflow temperature reaches a preset temperature; and adjusting an in-tank pressure of the working medium storage tank to a target in-tank pressure corresponding to the number of the target backflow paths according to the number of the target backflow paths and a corresponding relationship between a preset number of backflow paths and the in-tank pressure. The control box determines the target in-tank pressure corresponding to the number of the target backflow paths to realize automatic adjustment of the in-tank pressure of the working medium storage tank.

Abstract: A laser can produce pulses of light energy for tissue-type selective ejection of a volume of the target tissue, and the energy can be delivered to a treatment site through a waveguide, such as a fiber optic waveguide. The incident laser energy can be absorbed within a volume of the target tissue with a tissue penetration depth and pulse direction such that the propagation of the energy from the tissue volume is inhibited and such that the target tissue within the volume reaches the spinodal threshold of decomposition and ejects the volume, for example without substantial damage to tissue adjacent the ejected volume. The pulses are set to be tissue selective.

The control device includes a temperature acquiring section that acquires a temperature of the heating element; and a surface temperature estimating section that estimates, as a surface temperature, a temperature of at least a part of a surface of the first holding member which is different from a portion facing the second holding member, based on a change of the temperature of the heating element after supply of the power is stopped.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of generating electrical signal waveforms by a generator. The generator includes a digital processing circuit, a memory circuit in communication with the digital processing circuit, the memory circuit defining a lookup table, a digital synthesis circuit in communication with the digital processing circuit and the memory circuit, and a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) circuit. The method includes storing, by the digital processing circuit, phase points of a digital electrical signal waveform in the lookup table defined by the memory circuit, wherein the digital electrical signal waveform is represented by a predetermined number of phase points, wherein the predetermined number phase points define a predetermined wave shape. Receiving a clock signal by the digital synthesis circuit. Retrieving, by the digital processing circuit, a phase point from the lookup table. Converting, by the digital processing circuit, the retrieved phase point to an analog signal.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a shaft assembly. A sliding electrical coupling provides electrical continuity between components of the shaft while permitting movement of a second shaft component relative to a first shaft component at the joint. An end effector is positioned at a distal end of the shaft assembly and is operable to engage tissue of a patient. A sensor is positioned adjacent to the joint and is configured to measure a joint parameter indicating a state of the sliding electrical coupling. The sensor transmits a first signal indicative of the measured joint parameter to a control module. The control module determines whether the measured joint parameter exceeds a maximum deviation from a predetermined value. When the measured joint parameter exceeds a maximum deviation from a predetermined value, the control module initiates a responsive action.
