摘要: An elongate hollow structure and method of constructing the hollow structure is described, the hollow structure including a radially inner portion and a radially outer portion merging together to form a tubular wall structure. The method includes providing the radially inner portion, assembling the radially outer portion about the radially inner portion, and radially expanding the inner portion. The outer portion comprises an outer layer of fibre reinforced composite construction surrounded by a flexible outer casing. A space is provided between the radially inner portion and flexible outer casing. The outer layer includes reinforcement and a binder. The flexible outer casing resists radial expansion of the reinforcement, subjecting it to radial compression. The radially expanding inner portion cooperates with the flexible outer casing to cause the volume of the space to progressively decrease, causing the binder to spread through the space between the radially inner portion and flexible outer casing.

摘要: A method and apparatus for making a pipe liner and the pipe liner itself. A thin walled pipe liner, after being provided cooled from a spool or extruded in tubular form and cooled, is deformed to a smaller cross section at ambient temperature. The pipe liner is then encased and held in its reduced cross section deformed shape by a protective sleeve which is co-extruded directly over the pipe liner. The sleeved pipe liner may then be wound on a drum for transport to a remote location. Ducts for water may pass through the pipe liner. Other ducts, for example, for fiber optics, may pass through the sleeve either within or outside of the deformed pipe liner.

The apparatus includes an extruder for extruding heated thermoplastic pipe material through a die to form a tubular shape, a shaping station for shaping the extruded tubular plastic material to the reduced form, a cooling station to cool the liner so that the liner maintains the reduced form and a reheating station to render the liner pliable to be put in suitable form for storage. The liner may be spooled on itself in a layered condition or on a solid spool.

摘要: A method for lining a conduit with a deformable plastics liner pipe, the claimed method including deforming the liner along its length to a cross-section with reduced external dimensions relative To the dimensions of the undeformed liner and binding the liner by helically winding an elongate flexible element around the liner along its length to maintain it in the deformed cross-section. The method further includes drawing the bound liner into the conduit to be lined and releasing the binding to allow the liner to assume a cross-section substantially corresponding with the internal cross-section of the conduit. The elongate flexible element is supplied to the liner from a bobbin or the like through which the liner is passed in the deformed cross-section, the bobbin or the like being mounted for rotation around the liner as it passes therethrough to wind the elongate flexible element around the liner.

摘要: A method and apparatus for forming sealed and reinforced holes through the end of a flexible, resin-impregnable, tubular pipe liner for securing a cable thereto and for sealing the end of the liner. The liner is installed into an existing conduit either by pulling a cable secured to holes at the front end of the liner or by eversion of the liner while securing a hold-back cable to holes at the trailing end of the everting liner. Holes are cut through the liner, and resin is impregnated into the region about each hole and hardened to form an integral grommet or reinforcement. A mold for impregnating the region about the hole includes a lower mold body with a projecting spigot and a groove thereabout. An upper mold body has a central opening with a groove thereabout, the upper mold body fitting over the spigot. A tube fits into the central opening and receives a resin, which is then forced by a plunger down the tube and allowed to harden and form a secure and reinforced hole for attaching a pull-in or hold-back rope or cable.

摘要: A method of lining a pipeline 24 intended to carry gas, oil, water, sewage or chemicals in which a cross-linked polymeric liner pipe 10, which has been reduced from its original diameter to a lesser diameter or to a shape of reduced maximum dimension, is pulled through the pipeline 24. The lesser diameter is less than the least inner diameter of the pipeline 24. After the liner pipe 10 has been fully pulled through, the pipe liner 10 is heated by means of a source 60 of visible or infrared radiation forming part of a pig assembly 50 to cause it to revert to the pipeline. The pig assembly or assemblies are stationary at zones 70 where service connections are to be made. Subsequently, the remaining liner pipe 10 is reverted by pulling the source 60 through the liner pipe 10.

摘要: A method is provided for lining a pipe wherein a thermoplastic liner is initially formed in a cylindrical shape with a diameter slightly larger than the internal diameter of the pipe. The liner is temporarily deformed at an elevated temperature to a different cross-section, preferably U-shaped, to reduce its overall cross-sectional dimension to facilitate insertion into the pipe to be lined. The deformation occurs with substantially comparable elongation of the pipe lining along its opposite sides thereby precluding variations in wall thickness and stress in the pipe. Once inserted, the liner is pressurized and reheated first to a temperature below its crystallization temperature to round the lining in the pipe and subsequently, further pressurized and reheated to a second temperature higher than the crystallization temperature to cause the liner to retain its original round shape.
