The strap-like fabric made of interwoven weft and warp yarns has a selvage in the form of knitted stitches. A binding yarn made of a thermoplastic material or covered with an adhesive layer is applied to the cross points of respective loops of the knitted stitches and is united with the cross points by a heat treatment to form firm connection points either by cementing or by welding. The connection points prevent unweaving of the fabric when the weft yarn or the binding yarn accidentally breaks.

A method of weaving including warp and weft being supplied in the form of tapes, and not yarns. The method preferably carried out in vertical format and includes feeding positively flat tensionless warp for shedding and taking-up; selecting, feeding positively and inserting weft tapes of different widths and thickness by gripping in its fore end in flat condition; depositing inserted weft at fabric-fell in a flat condition without beating-up; and taking-up the woven material that includes either the same or different widths of flat wefts. The warps and wefts, preferably of partially stabilized type of fibrous tapes, can be overfed in a tensionless, positive and controlled manner when required to make the fibres of constituent fibrous tapes occur non-linearly in the form of wave/texture during weaving. Extra warps and wefts can be also fed in tandem whereby the warps and wefts become composed of two or more unconnected, mutually slipping, flat tapes in a stacked arrangement. These doubled warps and wefts function effectively as a unit warp and weft during weaving and in the fabric. The method also allows for the production of other materials such as those with slant weft tapes in relation to warp, having a shape within the body of the fabric and warp and weft tapes of shaped edges. A variety of fibrous and non-fibrous materials are equally well processed.

Process for producing high-density woven fabrics on a water-jet loom, comprising feeding a warp having up to three catch threads on one edge, inserting weft threads into the warp in the direction of the catch threads, beating-up the weft threads to produce a woven fabric, severing the ends of the weft threads at the edges of the warp, and removing the ends of the weft threads, characterized in that, seen from both edges of the warp, 5 to 60 threads of the warp, following the catch threads on the edge of the warp with the catch threads, are support threads that are maintained at a tension that is 2 to 20 cN/tex higher than that of the threads forming the remaining warp, that after production of the fabric the weft threads between the edges of the remaining warp and the support threads are severed by fusion and joined to threads at the edges of the remaining warp, and that the severed ends of the weft threads are removed together with the support threads and the catch threads.

A woven fabric is formed from polypropylene fibers by simply weaving the fabric using polypropylene fibers in both the warp and weft directions. The edges are left frayed and could become unraveled. In order to prevent the fabric from fraying further, particularly during washing, binding fibers are incorporated at least in the weft direction, but only along the edges. The binding fibers are polyester fibers coated with a low-melting-point thermoplastic adhesive. The thermoplastic adhesive is one that melts at a temperature lower than the melting point of the polypropylene fibers. Once these are incorporated into the fabric at the loom, the fabric is placed in an oven and heated to a temperature above the melting point of the thermoplastic adhesive and below the melting point of the polypropylene fibers to cause the thermoplastic adhesive to melt, binding the polypropylene fibers together. The ends of the fabric can be bonded together by either stitching, by binding fibers incorporated along the weft direction, or by the natural holding characteristics of some yarns such as cotton.

A fabric to be utilized in making a textile product is prepared in the steps comprising: embroidering a natural fabric along the predetermined cutting line and/or patterns with thermofusing fibers; and melt cutting and/or pressingly welding along said embroidered portions with a supersonic treating machine to provide frayless edge portions and/or openings as well as hollow patterns. Another fabric is prepared in the steps comprising: providing at least one surface of a natural fabric with a thermofusing fabric; and melt-cutting and/or pressingly welding along the predetermined cutting line and/or patterns with a supersonic treating machine.

Novel woven materials, producible by a new weaving method, are described that comprise single or doubled warps and wefts in the form of tapes that are preferably partially stabilized type of fibrous tape. These fibres are caused to occur in a non-linear arrangement during the weaving process. The non-linear fibres can be subsequently straightened by pulling the tape longitudinally. The doubled warps and wefts comprise disconnected tapes. Such separateness of constituent tapes of doubled warp and weft tapes enables them to be slid/slipped relative to each other by pulling longitudinally and laterally without causing any alteration in the woven structure. These novel fabrics solve the problem of uneven fibre distribution and orientation arising from crumples/wrinkles due to compression and stretches due to extension, at the inner and outer sides respectively, when tape-woven fabrics are curved into shapes. Further, by using doubled warps and wefts fabrics with relatively flat/planar sections and thicker/raised wide rib sections can be also created that resemble a bit like a profiled material in its cross-section. Other fabrics like those comprising slant/oblique weft tapes, shaped warp and weft tapes, formed shape within its body are also producible.

A method of converting an elongated web of filamentary textile material into lengths; of coherent labels for application to garments includes placing a first row of selvage on the web at a first predefined distance from a first outer edge thereof, the first predefined distance being greater than zero, placing a second row of selvage on the web at a second predefined distance from a second outer edge thereof, the second predefined distance being greater than zero, and placing at least a third row and a fourth row of selvage on the web between the first and second rows, a portion of the filamentary material separating each of the rows from the other. A following step includes cutting the web along a line lying between the third and fourth rows of selvage and at a predefined distance away from each of the third and fourth rows of selvage, the predefined distance being greater than zero.

A predetermined or sensed length of fabric, such as toweling, is delivered to a position between fixed and movable devices having parts which, upon engaging the fabric, have the capability of forming and folding it to produce industry standard hems. The fabric is severed between hem portions so that one hem is developed on the trailing end of one article while simultaneously a second hem is developed on the leading end of the next article. A part of the folding means also has the capability of depositing adhesive within the second fold of each hem to secure the hem without stitching after the application of pressure.
