Power is provided to the control circuit in the event of a loss of power from a main power source using a backup energy source of the control circuit. The method includes transitioning to an emergency mode in response to determining loss of power from the main power source or failure of the component of the entry system. An actuation group associated with the latch assembly is operated with the control circuit using power from the backup energy source of the control circuit in response to determining that actuation from a plurality of pins of a mechanical emergency switch assembly indicates a command from a user to unlatch the closure member in the emergency mode.

An uninterruptible power source (UPS) for supplying power to a barrier operator when mains power has failed is disclosed. The UPS includes a UPS controller for detecting and responding to a mains power failure and capable of generating a plurality of control signals. A backup power source and an up-converter is connected to the UPS controller, wherein the up-converter increases the voltage of the backup power source when needed. A switch is responsive to one of the plurality of control signals of the UPS controller and toggles the operator barrier between the up-converter and the mains power source, and awakens the operator via a standby receiver power line. Another embodiment awakens the operator anytime a UPS receiver receives a preamble of a wireless transmission signal. Auxiliary lighting may also be associated with the UPS and/or photo-electric safety devices.

A second strip of flexible, electrically conductive material is supported on the opposite inner surface of the outer sheath. The second strip of conductive material faces the first strip of conductive material, with a space being provided between the first and second strips. The first and second strips of conductive material form a sensor for detection of an external force applied to the sheath, whereby the first strip of resiliently compressible material is adapted to allow displacement of the first strip of flexible, electrically conductive material when the outer sheath is folded for shipping to prevent cracking of the first strip of flexible, electrically conductive material. An L-shaped conduit which is pivotally installed in the upper surface of the outer sheath is also provided, to allow the same sensing edge to be used in left hand or right hand applications.
