    Abstract: A roller tappet assembly for a reciprocating pump comprises: a tappet body; a pin element comprising: first and second opposing end portions that engage respective formations in the tappet body to retain the pin element, and a bearing portion, extending between the first and second end portions, for supporting a cam rider arrangement. The cam rider arrangement is supported on the bearing portion of the pin element so that, in use, the reciprocating pump is cyclically loaded and unloaded as an outer surface of the cam rider arrangement interfaces with a rotating camshaft. At least one of: the bearing portion of the pin element; and/or an inner surface of the cam rider arrangement; comprises one or more recessed formations for supporting hydrodynamic lubrication between the cam rider arrangement and the pin element as the bearing portion bends during the loading cycle.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a reciprocating pump (1) comprising a roller tappet (2) and a pump plunger (10) that is operatively connected to the roller tappet (2). The roller tappet (2) has a roller support (3), a roller (4) and a pin (5). A first bearing eye (6) and a second bearing eye (7) are formed in the roller support (3), the pin (5) being supported in the first bearing eye (6) and in the second bearing eye (7). The roller (4) is rotatably mounted on the pin (5). The pin (5) is mounted more resiliently in the first bearing eye (6) than in the second bearing eye (7).

    Abstract: A high-pressure pump may include a cylinder, a plunger reciprocally driven by an eccentric to pressurize a pump chamber in the cylinder, a rider mounted on the eccentric to allow relative rotation of the eccentric, the rider presenting a face to the plunger, a tappet supported on the face of the rider for transmitting reciprocal movement from the rider to the plunger, and rotatable bearing elements that support the tappet for relative transverse movement of the face of the rider during operation of the pump. The rotatable bearing elements may be at least partially recessed in a body of the tappet. A common rail fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine comprising a common rail for distributing fuel to a plurality of fuel injectors associated with combustion cylinders of the engine may include such a pump for delivering fuel at high pressure to the common rail.
