摘要: Methods and systems for performing one or more operations on a first computing device are disclosed. A method includes receiving, from a second computing device via a short-range wireless communication, a service session setup request and an identifier of one of the second computing device and an associated user of the second computing device. The method further includes determining whether to authorize the service session setup request based on the identifier. Then in response to determining to authorize the service session setup request, a service session may be established between the first and the second computing devices. The method also includes receiving one or more service instructions that are allowable based on the identifier. The method furthermore includes performing, at the first computing device, the one or more operations based on the service instructions.

摘要: A method, system, and computer program product for unobtrusive sizing and placement of pop-ups are provided in the illustrative embodiments. In a method for displaying a pop-up graphical user interface (GUI), using a device to detect eye movements, a first area of a display device is detected where a content is being displayed, the first area being where an attention of a user is focused. A change in the attention of the user to a second area during a future period is predicted. A third area is identified on the display device, wherein the third area excludes the first and the second areas. The pop-up GUI is displayed in the third area.

摘要: A method includes running servers to provide computer services to client devices and storing a hardware profile for each of a plurality of server models, wherein each hardware profile identifies hardware components that should be enabled to implement the server model on one of the servers. A request is received from a client device to provide computer services on one or more of the servers using a selected server model and applying the hardware profile for the selected server model to configure the hardware components of the one or more of the servers to use the identified hardware components without manually reconfiguring the one or more of the servers. Still further, the method includes providing computer services to the client device using the one or more of the servers that has been configured using the hardware profile for the selected server model.

摘要: A method and a computer program product for causing a processor to perform the method are provided. The method includes creating a virtual machine having a virtual machine identifier, and storing an entry in a temporary virtual machine registry, wherein the entry includes the virtual machine identifier, inactivity criteria for the virtual machine, and a responsive action for the virtual machine. The method further includes monitoring the activity of the virtual machine, and initiating the responsive action associated with the virtual machine in response to the virtual machine satisfying the inactivity criteria.

摘要: The embodiments relate to a computer system, and management of an operating mode of a general-purpose computing on graphics processing unit (GPGPU) adapter. A tool is provided to control the function of the GPGPU adapter. The tool includes an input/output (I/O) interface operatively coupled to the GPGPU adapter. The tool further includes basic input/output system (BIOS) to determine presence of the GPGPU adapter and to interrogate the GPGPU adapter to automatically set an operating mode of the GPGPU adapter. At least two modes of the GPGPU adapter are provided. The GPGPU adapter is set to a first mode in response to determining that the GPGPU adapter is in communication with the visual display, and set to the second mode in response to determining that the GPGPU is not in communication with a visual display.

摘要: A method and computer program product for causing a processor to perform the method are provided. The method includes monitoring a plurality of operating parameters for each of multiple components of a compute node, wherein the multiple components have the same component type, and determining a stress factor score for each of the multiple components, wherein the stress factor score is a function of the plurality of operating parameters. The method further includes reducing use of a first component from among the multiple components, wherein the first component has a stress factor score that is greater than the stress factor score for any of the other components of the same component type. Optionally, the method may prioritize use of each of the multiple components in an order of ascending stress factor score.

摘要: Network devices, like switches, selectively store network addresses of data packets received at their interfaces within forwarding tables. A management device determines workload devices related to a workload. The management device determines the network devices through which network traffic related to the workload among the workload devices traverses, and the network devices through which network traffic related to the workload among the workload devices does not traverse. The management device causes each network device to store or not store the network addresses of the workload devices depending on whether network traffic among the workload device traverses therethrough.

摘要: A heat sink comprises a base and a fin support larger in area than the base and supporting fins that may be positioned in a plurality of orientations relative to the base. The base is adapted for being connected to a heat-generating electronic component on a circuit board, and the heat sink dissipates heat generated by the heat-generating electronic device and conducted through the base and the fin support to the fins supported thereon. The heat sink dissipates heat from the heat-generating electronic device in a first operable position and in a second operable position. The heat sink may be moved from the first to the second operable position to facilitate access to electrical contacts proximal the heat-generating electronic component.

摘要: Additional workloads are assigned among servers in a power-efficient manner. For each of a plurality of servers, a stored power efficiency/capacity utilization relationship is accessed, current component power consumption values are obtained, and a current power consumption efficiency is calculated. An amount of capacity utilization necessary to perform an additional workload is obtained, and a predicted power consumption efficiency is determined for each server. The predicted efficiency is determined using the current power consumption efficiency of the server and the stored relationship. The workload is then assigned to the server identified as having the greatest predicted power consumption efficiency. Alternatively, the workload may be assigned to the server identified as having the greatest improvement in power consumption efficiency.
