Abstract: A method and system of generating a two-dimensional map with an optical scanner is provided. The method comprises acquiring coordinate data of points in an area being scanned with a mobile optical scanner. A current 2D map from the coordinate data is generated. A copy of the current 2D map is saved on a periodic or aperiodic basis. At least one data registration error is identified in the current 2D map. The saved copy of the current 2D map from a point in time prior to the registration error is determined. A second data set of coordinate data acquired after the determined saved copy is identified. The second data set is aligned to the determined saved copy to form a new current 2D map. The new current 2D map is stored in memory.

The method includes providing a 3D measuring device having a projector, a first camera and a second camera. The method records images of a light pattern emitted by the projector onto an object. The 3D measuring device is moved from a first position and a second position along a second path. A gesture and a corresponding control function are determined based at least in part on the first position and the second position.

Abstract: A method and system are provided for controlling a measurement device remotely through gestures performed by a user. The method includes providing a relationship between a command and a gestures. A gesture is performed by the user with the user's body that corresponds to the user gesture. The gesture performed by the user is detected. A command is determined based at least in part on the detected gesture. Then the command is executed with the laser tracker.

Abstract: A laser projection system is provided. The laser projection system includes at least one laser projector having a laser source and a laser detector. The system includes processors for executing computer instructions, the processors are coupled to the laser projector, the computer readable instructions include determining the component is stationary based on the emitting of a first laser light towards a reference target on the component and receiving a portion of the first laser light by the laser detector. In response to the determining the component is stationary: determining a transformation for mapping a first coordinate system of the laser projector to a second coordinate system of the component and forming a visual pattern on the component. The computer instructions further include determining that the component is in motion based on receiving a portion of the first laser light by the laser detector and removing the visual pattern.

Abstract: A method of comparing measured three-dimensional (3D) measurement data to an object is provided. The method includes obtaining 3D coordinates on the object with a 3D measurement device to measure at least one dimensional characteristic. An AR marker is associated with the object. The AR marker is read with an AR-marker reader and, in response, transmitting the first collection of 3D coordinates and an electronic dimensional representation of the object to a computing device having a camera and a display. The camera is positioned to view an area and to generate a camera image of the area. The camera image is displayed on the integrated display. The at least one dimensional characteristic and the virtual object are displayed in the camera image on the integrated display.

Abstract: A method and system for generating a three-dimensional (3D) map of an environment is provided. An example method includes receiving, by a processor system, via a 3D scanner, located at a scan position, a 3D scan of the environment. The method further includes receiving via a two-dimensional (2D) scanner accessory, a portion of a 2d map of the environment. The method further includes receiving coordinates of the scan position in the 2d map in response to the 3D scanner initiating the acquisition of the 3D scan. The method further includes associating the coordinates of the scan position with the portion of the 2D map. The method further includes determining a displacement vector for the 2D map using a loop closure algorithm. The method further includes computing a revised scan position based on the scan position and the displacement vector, where the 3D scan is registered using the revised scan position.

Abstract: A laser scanner and method of operation to determine the consistency of a registration is provided. The method includes generating with the laser scanner at least a first scan of the scene with first measuring points. The laser scanner generates at least one second scan of the scene with second measuring points. At least one measured distance is determined from at least one of the second measuring points to the center of the second scan. The second scan is provisionally registered subjected to a consistency check. The consistency check is performed. At least one virtual distance is determined from at least one of the first measuring points to the center of the second scan. The consistency check is based at least in part on comparing the at least one virtual distance with the at least one measured distance.

Abstract: A method for optically scanning, measuring and displaying a point cloud is provided. The method includes emitting, by a laser scanner, an emission light beam and receiving a reflection light beam that is reflected from an object. A control device determines for measurement points projected on a plane corresponding to a screen, wherein at least some measurement points are displayed on a display device. One or more pixels are gap filled to generate a visual appearance of a surface on the display device. Wherein the gap filling includes a first horizontal search in a first direction of a first measured point of the measurement points followed by a second horizontal search in a second direction of the first measured point. The gap filling further includes a first vertical search in a third direction of the measured point, followed by a second vertical search in a fourth direction.
