Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, a system that facilitates receiving a modulated signal in a spectral segment for communicating with a communication device, wherein the modulated signal conforms to a signaling protocol, generating a plurality of ultra-wideband electromagnetic waves, wherein the plurality of ultra-wideband electromagnetic waves conveys the modulated signal without modifying the signaling protocol, and transmitting the plurality of ultra-wideband electromagnetic waves via a transmission medium, wherein the plurality of ultra-wideband electromagnetic waves is directed to another system. Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a launcher that includes a hollow waveguide that guides a first electromagnetic wave conveying data from a transmitting device. A dielectric stub coupler receives the first electromagnetic wave from the hollow waveguide to form a second electromagnetic wave that propagates along a portion of the dielectric stub coupler adjacent to a transmission medium, wherein second electromagnetic wave propagates along the dielectric stub coupler via a first guided wave mode and a second guided wave mode, and wherein the portion has a length that supports a coupling of the second guided wave mode for propagation along an outer surface of the transmission medium.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, determining a target position of a particular physical location, accessing an image system that provides a number of images based on physical locations including the particular physical location, and obtaining a target image from the image system based on the particular physical location. The target image includes imaged features based on physical features of the particular physical location. Image processing is applied to the target image, and a particular physical feature is identified as a candidate deployment site based on the applying of the image processing, wherein the candidate deployment site is configured to accommodate equipment of a distributed communication network that facilitates transmission of electromagnetic waves along a surface of a transmission medium.
