Abstract:
Improved methods of forming a patterned self-assembled monolayer on a surface and derivative articles are provided. According to one method, an elastomeric stamp is deformed during and/or prior to using the stamp to print a self-assembled molecular monolayer on a surface. According to another method, during monolayer printing the surface is contacted with a liquid that is immiscible with the molecular monolayer-forming species to effect controlled reactive spreading of the monolayer on the surface. Methods of printing self-assembled molecular monolayers on nonplanar surfaces and derivative articles are provided, as are methods of etching surfaces patterned with self-assembled monolayers, including methods of etching silicon. Optical elements including flexible diffraction gratings, mirrors, and lenses are provided, as are methods for forming optical devices and other articles using lithographic molding. A method for controlling the shape of a liquid on the surface of an article is provided, involving applying the liquid to a self-assembled monolayer on the surface, and controlling the electrical potential of the surface.
Abstract:
An illustrated view of an exemplary nail clipping stand apparatus for those unable to clip their toes normally is presented. The nail clipping stand is useful for providing an apparatus that can allow for those with disabilities, are of an older age, or just unable to normally reach their toes to clip their toenails without seeking aid from others. The nail clipping stand is useful for providing a user with a feeling of independence, increased self-esteem and satisfaction without the need to rely on others. Further, the nail clipping stand is useful for not only helping to keep the health of the user's toenails but also to provide an apparatus that makes clean up and finding of the clipped toenails easy, efficient and timely.
Abstract:
A technique for tracking conversion of an online offer includes tracking online and/or offline transactions. A customer accepts an offer provided by a merchant and submits his or her account information so that he or she may receive a reward for satisfying criteria associated with the offer. Transactions of the merchant are then monitored at the payment processor level to determine whether the customer satisfies the purchase criteria. Therefore, online and offline conversion can both be tracked. Further, the merchant is able to determine the overall effectiveness of advertising campaigns by analyzing the number of offers that are both accepted and satisfied.
Abstract:
Information regarding a mobile user's context including but not limited to current mobile activity, social relations and associations history, and past mobile, search and browsing history is identified and converted to metadata. Metadata is also applied to content sources delivering content to a search engine or personalized content engine. The metadata is used in part to determine the relative display of content objects delivered to the mobile user as search results or a personalized aggregated information resource, e.g., home page. The user may select information, from one or more entities or search results or as presented to the user in other contexts, to be automatically delivered to the user's home page as a content feed including multiple content objects or content feeds associated with an entity. Information regarding mobile user activity is compiled and used to permit publishers and advertisers to identify target candidates to receive advertisements or marketing materials.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method for identifying a memory request corresponding to a load instruction as a critical transaction if an instruction pointer of the load instruction is present in a critical instruction table associated with a processor core, sending the memory request to a system agent of the processor with a critical indicator to identify the memory request as a critical transaction, and prioritizing the memory request ahead of other pending transactions responsive to the critical indicator. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract:
Modeling hydrocarbon flow, from layered shale formations. At least some of the illustrative embodiments are methods including: modeling movement of hydrocarbons through kerogen-related porosity, the movement through a first model volume; estimating a first permeability of a kerogen-rich layer of a layered shale formation based on the modeling; and modeling hydrocarbon production from the layered shale formation. The modeling hydrocarbon production may include: utilizing the first permeability for the kerogen-rich layer of the layered shale formation; and utilizing a second permeability for a kerogen-poor layer of the layered shale formation, the second permeability different than the first permeability. In various cases the modeling of hydrocarbon production is with respect to a second model volume greater than the first model volume.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for providing real-time monitoring of a metal surface are provided herein. The system includes a fiber-optic cable disposed alongside a length of a wall that includes the metal surface. A laser source is attached to the fiber-optic cable to transmit light through the fiber-optic cable. An acoustic source is configured to generate acoustic signals in the metal surface, wherein the acoustic signals interact with the fiber-optic cable and influence characteristics of the light. A receiver is attached to the fiber-optic cable to detect the light. The system also includes a signal processing unit configured to determine a location of a change in the metal surface based on changes in the characteristics of the light.
Abstract:
A multilayer mounting mat for an exhaust gas treatment device including high temperature resistant inorganic fibers, optionally organic binder, and optionally intumescent material. A plurality of the mounting mat plies contain a substantial proportion of the inorganic fibers oriented in the x-y plane of the mounting mat. An exhaust gas treatment device includes a housing, a fragile catalyst support structure resiliently mounted within the housing, and the multilayer mounting mat disposed in a gap between the housing and the fragile catalyst support structure.
Abstract:
Knowledge transfer between users of a software application. At least some of the example embodiments are methods including: tracking steps performed by a plurality of users of a software application, and the tracking creates tracked steps; identifying a first task as a first series of steps of the tracked steps, and identifying a second task as a second series steps of the tracked steps, the second series of steps distinct from the first series of steps; and providing, on a display device associated with the software application, an indication of the first series of steps of the first task and the second series of steps of the second task, the providing to a later user interacting with the software application.
Abstract:
Computer-readable media, computer systems, and computing methods are provided for implicitly discovering applications that have a corresponding location. Initially, an application manifest is constructed that maintains a mapping between apps and their respective geographic boundaries. In operation, upon detecting a location signal being transmitted from a mobile device, the location signal is employed to identify a set of valid applications. Generally, the location signal represents location-based information entered to or received from the mobile device. Identifying the set of valid applications involves comparing the location signal against the application manifest and, based on the comparison, designating those apps that are mapped to geographic boundaries that meet the location signal as the set of valid applications. Upon identifying the set of valid applications, a selection of apps included within the set of valid applications is sent to the mobile device for display to the user within a operational context.
