Abstract:
A composition suitable for copper chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) comprises an abrasive powder, such as a silica and/or alumina abrasive, in a liquid carrier. The composition has a transition metal content of less than about 5 parts per million (ppm), preferably less than about 2 ppm. Preferably the composition contains less than about 2 ppm of yttrium, zirconium, and/or iron. The CMP compositions, when combined with hydrogen peroxide, provide CMP slurries for copper CMP that have improved pot life by ameliorating hydrogen peroxide degradation in slurries.
Abstract:
Metal alloy heatsink films for magnetic recording media are disclosed. The metal alloy heatsink films possess both high thermal conductivity and improved mechanical properties such as relatively high hardness. The metal alloy heatsink films also have controlled microstructures which are compatible with subsequently deposited crystalline magnetic recording layers. The films may comprise single phase CuZr or AgPd alloys having a selected crystal structure and orientation. The combination of high thermal conductivity, good mechanical properties and controlled microstructures makes the metal alloy heatsink films suitable for various applications including heat assisted magnetic recording systems.
Abstract:
A thin film structure that includes a hard magnetic recording layer, a soft magnetic underlayer and an intermediate layer between the hard magnetic recording layer and the soft magnetic underlayer is disclosed. The intermediate layer comprises a soft magnetic interlayer, and a non-magnetic interlayer between the soft magnetic interlayer and the hard magnetic recording layer. The thin film structure can be a recording medium. The soft magnetic interlayer can be crystalline.
Abstract:
One embodiment of the present invention enables a user to utilize a personalized video recorder (PVR) to order and receive specific television shows that are unavailable from his or her television content provider. Specifically, the PVR is coupled to the Internet such that it can receive an electronic programming guide (EPG) containing worldwide television programming from an EPG server computer. The PVR user utilizes the EPG to request delivery of a specific television show that is typically unavailable to him or her. Upon reception of the request, the EPG server computer locates via the Internet a PVR situated within a broadcast region of the requested television show. Next, the EPG server computer programs the PVR to record the requested television show when it is broadcast. Once the PVR records the television show, it is transmitted to the EPG server computer which transmits it to the requesting PVR.
Abstract:
Vectors and methods for the production of influenza viruses suitable as recombinant influenza vaccines in cell culture are provided. Bi-directional expression vectors for use in a multi-plasmid influenza virus expression system are provided. Additionally, the invention provides methods of producing influenza viruses with enhanced ability to replicate in embryonated chicken eggs and/or cells (e.g., Vero and/or MDCK) and further provides influenza viruses with enhanced replication characteristics. A method of producing a cold adapted (ca) influenza virus that replicates efficiently at, e.g., 25° C. (and immunogenic compositions comprising the same) is also provided.
Abstract:
The present invention provides recombinant respiratory syncytial viruses that have an attenuated phenotype and that comprise one or more mutations in the viral P, M2-1 and/or M2-2 proteins, as well as live attenuated vaccines comprising such viruses and nucleic acids encoding such viruses. Recombinant RSV P, M2-1 and M2-2 proteins are described. Methods of producing attenuated recombinant RSV, and methods of quantitating neutralizing antibodies that utilize recombinant viruses of family Paramyxoviridae, are also provided.

Abstract:
The system is a closed-loop feedback mechanism that helps a user correct improper posture. The system consists of two or more system enclosures on opposite ends of a loop formed by connecting the enclosures with a necklace portion and multi-conductor cable of essentially equal length. Worn around the neck, one system enclosure is centered on the upper chest and the other enclosure is centered on the upper back. The two enclosures measure the angle of head back and neck to upper body and detect when a user is slouching. When so detected for some predetermined period of time, a transducer in one enclosure vibrates silently to alert the user that he or she is slouching. The vibratory alert ends when a user corrects his or her posture.
Abstract:
A system and method for controlling an AC motor drive includes a control system programmed with an algorithm configured to optimize operation of the motor drive. Specifically, the control system is programmed to input an initial voltage-frequency command to the drive. The initial voltage-frequency command includes a voltage reference and a frequency reference corresponding to an operating point of an initial voltage/frequency (V/Hz) curve. The control system monitors a real-time output of the drive, modifies the voltage reference based on the real-time output of the drive, and transmits a modified voltage-frequency command to the drive. The modified voltage-frequency command corresponds to an operating point of a modified V/Hz curve defined by the modified voltage reference and the initial V/Hz curve.
Abstract:
Data storage systems having barriers that may reduce erasure flux and increase write-ability are provided. Data storage systems include a writing element. The writing element has a write pole with a flare region. A magnetic flux barrier is located along the write pole flare region. The magnetic flux barrier is illustratively made from an in-plane magnetically anisotropic material that has an easy plane of magnetization. In another embodiment, a data storage system includes a writing element having an air bearing surface and a shield at the air bearing surface. The shield has a magnetic permeability of approximately zero. The shield illustratively includes alternating layers of positive and negative permeabilities. The shield optionally includes a plurality of shields that may include top, bottom, and side shields.
