    摘要: A liquid crystal device is constituted by a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal disposed in a uniform alignment state between the substrates. At least one of the substrate has a surface contacting the liquid crystal and including a first region having a larger uniaxial alignment control force and a second region having a smaller or substantially no uniaxial alignment control force, respectively acting on the liquid crystal. In the device, phase transition from liquid phase to mesomorphic phase on temperature decrease, of the liquid crystal has been initiated from a portion contacting the first region and enlarged toward the second region to place the liquid crystal in a uniform alignment state, thus ensuring an increased effective voltage applied to the liquid crystal while retaining a good alignment characteristic to improve drive and display characteristics.

    摘要: An aligning method of a chiral smectic liquid crystal includes the steps of: disposing a chiral smectic liquid crystal between a pair of electrode plates, the chiral smectic liquid crystal having a layer spacing-changing characteristic providing a layer spacing which increases on temperature decrease in a first temperature range in smectic A phase; and subjecting the chiral smectic liquid crystal to a heat treatment including a sequence of cooling from a higher temperature phase to a second temperature range in smectic A phase including at least a portion of the first temperature range, at least one cycle of heating and cooling within the second temperature range, and further cooling to a smectic phase lower than smectic phase. The heat treatment, particularly at least one cycle of heating and cooling in smectic A phase, is effective in suppressing an alignment (orientation) irregularity due to the presence of two regions different in characteristics, thus improving a drive margin.

    摘要: A novel bis-phosphate compound is provided which can be applied to a wide range of reactive substrates and reactions as an asymmetric reaction catalyst and can realize an asymmetric reaction affording a high yield and a high enantiomeric excess. The bis-phosphate compound has a tetraaryl skeleton represented by General Formula (1). In an asymmetric reaction, an amidodiene and an unsaturated aldehyde compound are reacted with each other in the presence of the optically active bis-phosphate compound to give an optically active amidoaldehyde. The invention allows a reaction such as an asymmetric Diels-Alder reaction to proceed efficiently, which has been difficult with conventional mono-phosphate compounds. Thus, the invention enables an industrially feasible method for the production of optically active amidoaldehydes, optically active β-amino acid derivatives, optically active diamine compounds, optically active pyrrolidine derivatives and optically active dihydropyran derivatives which are useful as products such as medicines, agricultural chemicals and chemical products as well as synthesis intermediates for such products.

For example, data on shot dates and times recorded as associated information concerning the images or time stamps of the files are used to calculate the time range, and the date range is displayed on a folder icon or on a tab portion of the folder icon. Moreover, a file list displayed last time is stored, the stored file list is compared with a current file list, and only if the both file lists are different from each other, the date and time information is obtained for a different file to recalculate the time range. Thus, the user can infer images included in the folder to some extent and easily retrieve a desired image.

    摘要: When an image processing program runs on a PC to produce a layout image in which plural selected images are inserted separately into image display frames, a CPU functions as a browser controller, a face image counter, an average number calculator, a pattern selector, a table, and an image layout section. The face image counter counts face images in each selected image. The average number calculator calculates an average number of the face images in a single selected image. Plural layout patterns of the image display frames are established in the table, which also defines the number of the image display frames and a threshold number of the face images for each layout pattern. Comparing the average number with the threshold number, the pattern selector selects the layout pattern. The image layout section inserts the selected images into the image display frames in the selected layout pattern.
