摘要: Communication methods and apparatus using ultraviolet (UV) light are provided. Save UV communication devices, including remote control units, can use highly efficient UV LEDs and very low-noise UV photodetectors. In some cases, the LEDs emit light at wavelengths below 400 nm, below 320 nm, or even below 280 nm. In one embodiment, communication can be achieved using an LED that emits less than about 1 picowatt of UV energy at a photodetector distance of up to at least about 10 meters. Longer range communication can also be achieved at higher power levels. Photodetectors having very low dark currents at room temperature, such as below about 1×10−9 A/m2, are preferable.

摘要: An item of expandable luggage includes a substantially rigid main peripheral frame and a substantially rigid secondary peripheral frame. A peripherally continuous gusset of flexible material is connected between the two peripheral frames. Opposite wall panels of the main peripheral frame are joined to corresponding opposite wall panels of the secondary peripheral frame by bridge assemblies, one such assembly being associated with each of the opposite wall panels of the respective frames. Each bridge assembly includes a receiving member affixed to the wall panel of the first component, the receiving member having an aperture therein, and a substantially rigid bridge plate affixed to the wall panel of the second component and slidably received by the receiving members, the plate having a first and second tongue capable of cooperating with the aperture.

摘要: Methods are described for removing contaminates from aqueous industrial wastewater process streams, specifically industrial laundries to yield a less contaminated aqueous effluent for discharge to a sewer and reduce the sludge generated therefrom. A premixed medium/high molecular weight and medium/high charged cationic coagulant solution polymer and an inorganic aluminum species is injected into the wastewater, and after at least a two second delay, a high molecular weight highly charged anionic flocculent polymer solution is injected into the wastewater which reduces sludge generation, while maintaining or exceeding effluent quality. Also, no coagulant, flocculent or sludge aids are needed to attain the results and the sludge can be dewatered in a plate and frame press.

摘要: A substrate includes non-gallium nitride posts that define trenches therebetween, wherein the non-gallium nitride posts include non-gallium nitride sidewalls and non-gallium nitride tops and the trenches include non-gallium floors. Gallium nitride is grown on the non-gallium nitride posts, including on the non-gallium nitride tops. Preferably, gallium nitride pyramids are grown on the non-gallium nitride tops and gallium nitride then is grown on the gallium nitride pyramids. The gallium nitride pyramids preferably are grown at a first temperature and the gallium nitride preferably is grown on the pyramids at a second temperature that is higher than the first temperature. The first temperature preferably is about 1000° C. or less and the second temperature preferably is about 1100° C. or more. However, other than temperature, the same processing conditions preferably are used for both growth steps. The grown gallium nitride on the pyramids preferably coalesces to form a continuous gallium nitride layer. Accordingly, gallium nitride may be grown without the need to form masks during the gallium nitride growth process. Moreover, the gallium nitride growth may be performed using the same processing conditions other than temperatures changes. Accordingly, uninterrupted gallium nitride growth may be performed.

摘要: An apparatus and method for obtaining a measurement of various qualities of an electrochemical cell (12). The apparatus includes first (9) and second (10) electrodes and an excitation source (8) for providing a time varying excitation voltage to the first electrode (9). The excitation voltage (8) is switched between two voltage levels with the first and second voltages alternately applied to the first electrode for predetermined times. An external capacitance (Cout) is connected between the second electrode (10) and ground. The apparatus is capable of determining the time related rates at which electrical charge is transferred from the first electrode (9) to charge the external capacitance (Cout). These rates, here termed Transient Immitivity Response (TIR), may be provided as a digital or analog output (11).

摘要: A dough for making a pastry food product, such as a churro, a method for making the dough and a method for making a cooked pastry food product from the dough. The method for making the dough for the pastry food product comprises heating dry ingredients for dough-making to a predetermined temperature; and mixing dry ingredients, substantially maintained at about its' predetermined temperature, with water, wherein the water is at a substantially elevated temperature, to form the dough. The dough absorbs less oil when it is deep-fried compared to a dough made by a conventional method.
