Abstract: A wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD) system comprises a plurality of patient parameter electrodes and a plurality of defibrillator electrodes to contact a patient's skin when the WCD is delivering therapy to the patient, a processor to receive one or more patient parameters from the one or more patient parameter electrodes, an energy storage device to store a charge to provide electrical therapy to the patient via the plurality of defibrillator electrodes, and a non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) monitor to obtain a blood pressure measurement of the patient and to provide the blood pressure measurement to the processor. The processor is to determine whether to provide electrical therapy to the patient based on the one or more patient parameters during an episode, and to obtain the blood pressure measurement from the NIBP monitor during the episode.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods to treat patients with AFib by monitoring their heart rhythm to determine the presence and/or the number of episodes of long duration AFib, and optionally the extent of AFib burden. Patients who meet threshold requirements are qualified for the treatment of AFib with a dosage of budiodarone. Patient monitoring is continued in order confirm that the patient is and remains responsive to budiodarone therapy including dose adjusting the patient to achieve such therapy. Subsequently, monitoring is continued to confirm that the patient remains responsive. These methods allow for treatment of the AFib and, correspondingly, reduce or delay the risk of stroke and/or congestive heart failure in the treated patient.

Abstract: Techniques for using multiple physiological parameters to provide an early warning for worsening heart failure are described. A medical device monitors a primary diagnostic parameter that is indicative of worsening heart failure, such as intrathoracic impedance or pressure, and one or more secondary diagnostic parameters. The medical device detects worsening heart failure in the patient based on the primary diagnostic parameter when an index that is changed over time based on the primary diagnostic parameter value is outside a range of values, termed the threshold zone. When the index is within the threshold zone, the medical device detects worsening heart failure in the patient based on the one or more secondary diagnostic parameters. Upon detecting worsening heart failure, the medical device may, for example, provide an alert that enables the patient to seek medical attention before experiencing a heart failure event.

Abstract: A Wearable Cardioverter Defibrillator (WCD) system has a processor that performs two different analyses to an ECG of the patient. A first-level analysis can be computationally economical, while a fuller second-level analysis can give shock/no-shock advice with more certainty. In some of these embodiments the second-level analysis of the ECG is performed only if the first-level analysis of the ECG detects a possible shockable condition. As such, the first-level analysis may operate as a gatekeeping function, often preventing the more computationally intensive second-level analysis from being performed. An advantage can be that the WCD system needs to store less charge, for powering the processor. In turn, this permits portions of the WCD system to be less bulky and weigh less.

Abstract: An ergonomic and unobtrusive cardiac monitoring and treatment device for continuous wear includes a band configured to be worn about a thoracic region of a patient within a T1 thoracic vertebra region to a T12 thoracic vertebra region. The band includes a vertical span of between 1 to 15 centimeters along at least 50 percent of a length of the band and is configured to be immobilized relative to a skin surface of the thoracic region by exerting one or more compression forces. The device also includes electrodes and associated circuitry disposed about the band, one or more sensor ports for receiving one or more physiological sensors separate from ECG sensing electrodes, and a controller. The controller includes an ingress-protected housing and a processor configured to analyze ECG information of the patient, detect one or more treatable arrhythmias based on the ECG information, and cause delivery of electrotherapy.

Abstract: A method includes estimating, by a consumer electronic device, an atrial fibrillation (AF) burden of a subject based on multiple measurements passively collected by at least one sensor associated with the consumer electronic device while the subject is in a free-living environment. The method also includes outputting, by the consumer electronic device, an AF burden notification associated with the subject based on the estimated AF burden. The method further includes outputting, by the consumer electronic device, an AF burden recommendation based on the estimated AF burden.
