摘要: The present invention provides a process for imparting a simulated patina, or antique appearance to a substrate by using a coating composition comprising a perlite based effect pigment. The perlite based effect pigment functions as colorant and matting agent and shows an almost angle independent brightness. The process provides, for example, decorative wall coatings showing enhanced antique, or patina effects as compared to conventional effect pigments on basis of mica.

摘要: A method for the temporary protection of patinated surfaces of copper products, in which an aqueous polymer dispersion is applied to the patinated surface, so that the polymer dispersion penetrates regions of the porous patina that are close to the surface, and in which the aqueous polymer dispersion is subsequently dried, so that it forms a composite with the patina that is permeable to water vapor diffusion. The polymer dispersion binds loose dust located on prepatinated copper products and simplifies the handling of the copper products. It behaves in a hydrophobic manner, but on the other hand it permits the required access of air moisture and water to the patina layer for further weathering.

摘要: A process for imparting a simulated patina appearance to a copper substrate, and a substrate having that appearance. A colorant having the desired initial patina color tone is employed to produce a non-continuous layer of colorant on the surface of a copper substrate. The appearance of patination of the desired tone is created by interspersed spots of colorant with the remaining portion of the substrate being exposed for natural patination. The interspersed spots of colorant may be produced by screen printing, by spattering, as by spraying, or by mechanical removal of colorant after application to the substrate surface, or a combination. The colorant is preferably a paint and may be applied by non-uniform spraying on the substrate surface. Non-uniformity may be accomplished by varying the volume of colorant sprayed during the application process or by varying the relative movement of the spray and substrate. After application, the colorant provides a simulated patina to the copper substrate surface while allowing the remaining (non-covered) portion of the substrate to patinate naturally.

摘要: A crackle finish for a wall or other object is obtained by utilizing a pad that has a number of small ribs on one side. The ribs terminate along a common plane, and will be made of a material that can receive paint, ink or other printable substances. The pad ribs are oriented so that each time the pad is pressed against the surface in a printing or stamping operation, it will leave an image that can be mated with the next image using the same or different pads to provide an overall finish that represents a crackle paint surface.

摘要: A process for the production of synthetic coverings for floors, walls, etc. which exhibit a cracked effect is presented. The process includes the step of depositing on a compatible substrate, a plastisol coating composition containing a gel previously prepared from a mixture of two materials, the mixture being comprised of (1) a solid sorbent agent and (2) a solvent which causes swelling by absorption of the solvent in and on the sorbent agent; or alternately, by an aqueous dispersion of a (1) dry mixture of PVC and of (2) a plasticizer containing at least one resin forming a gel in water. Subsequent to depositing this plastisol coating on the substrate, a thermal treatment for the formation of a film or for drying is carried out at a sufficient temperature whereby an irreversible process of preliminary gelling of the coating and shrinkage of the gel by desorption of the solvent from the sorbent agent or by evaporation of the water, respectively, simultaneously occurs. Thereafter, conventional finishing operations may be carried out on the synthetic coverings.

摘要: A crinkle embossed surface on a flexible sheet goods substrate is created by means of applying an actinic radiation curable coating which is essentially solvent-free and comprises at least two photopolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated groups per molecule to the flexible sheet substrate. The coating is fully reacted and has developed essentially all of its physical properties upon exposure to actinic radiation in the temperature range of 180.degree. to 250.degree. F. for between five seconds and one minute time period resulting in a product having a clear, durable wearlayer, with stain resistant properties; scratch and scuff resistance as well as wear properties which are superior and having a uniform crinkled surface texture. A desired application is in the creation of crinkle embossing on vinyl sheet products such as sheet vinyl floor and wall coverings, table coverings, book covers, coated fabrics for use in upholstery, clothing and automobile interiors, shoes, handbags, decorative vinyl laminates and the like.

摘要: A process for making a decorative article is provided by selectively oxidizing at least one layer of oxidizable metal to produce color changes in the layer(s) and selectively terminating the oxidation of the metal to set the color in the layer(s) with the desired decorative effect. Preferably, the oxidizable metal is in the form of finely divided particles such as iron, copper or brass powder, which may be adhesively or cohesively secured to a substrate which is preferably porous. Oxidation may be carried out by wetting the metal with a corrosive liquid or humidity in an oxygen containing atmosphere, and the rate and extent of oxidation may be controlled mechanically by occlusive dressings and/or chemically by the use of catalysts. The resulting article exhibits predetermined color patterns characteristic of various stages of oxidation of the metal.

摘要: A METHOD OF OBTAINING A PREDETERMINED PATTERN OR DESIGN IN A CRACKLE COATING APPLIED TO A SURFACE BY TEXTURING SAID SURFACE WITH SAID PATTERN OR DESIGN PRIOR TO APPLICATION OF SAID CRACKLE COATING. UPON DRYING, THE CRACKLE COAT SEPARATES AT POINTS OF INDENTATION IN THE TEXTURED SURFACE, FORMING A CRACKLE DESIGN IN A PREDETERMINED OR PREDICTABLE PATTERN AS DISTINGUISHED FROM A RANDOM CRACKLE PATTERN. THE COLOR OF THE SURFACE, OR A BASE COAT, SHOWS THROUGH THE SEPARATIONS IN THE CRACKLE COAT.
