Abstract:
A sealing device is for sealing fluid transmittable openings in well components. The sealing device includes an elastic element which is arranged between two shoulders. The elastic element, before being placed in the fluid transmittable opening, has a larger external dimension than the fluid transmittable opening to be sealed. A gap is arranged between at least one of the shoulders and the elastic element, allowing liquid to enter between the shoulder and the elastic element. The ridge is arranged on an intermediate piece which is located between the shoulder and the elastic element. The intermediate piece is constituted by as ring in which the ridge is surrounding and divided, and projects from an end surface opposite an abutment surface facing the elastic element.
Abstract:
Downhole tools and methods, of which the downhole tool includes an expandable sleeve defining a bore therethrough, and a first body positioned at least partially within the bore of the expandable sleeve. The first body is slidable relative to the expandable sleeve, and sliding the first body along the bore of the expandable sleeve causes the expandable sleeve to radially expand so as to actuate the downhole tool from a run-in configuration to a set configuration. The downhole tool also includes an isolation device received at least partially in the expandable sleeve in the set configuration. A pressure on the isolation device is at least partially transmitted to the expandable sleeve as a radially-outward force.
Abstract:
A packoff device is disclosed for sealing an annulus within a wellbore, and for bypassing the sealed annulus. The packoff device may include a mandrel having a bore formed axially therethrough and first and second ports extending radially from the bore. A sealing element that extends radially-outwardly from the mandrel may be positioned axially between the first and second ports, and may create a seal within an annulus between the mandrel and a casing, to isolate a portion of the annulus above the sealing element from a portion below the sealing element. A sleeve within the bore may, with the mandrel, form a channel providing fluid communication between the first and second ports. The sleeve may be movable between open and closed states. The first and second ports may be unobstructed by the sleeve in the open state, one or more may be obstructed in the closed state.
Abstract:
A sampling assembly has an inner expandable packer, and an outer layer formed by rings may be disposed about and/or may be positioned on the outer surface of the inner expandable packer member. Drains may be positioned between the rings and may be located under ports positioned between the rings. Flowlines may be connected to the drains, may be positioned in the rings and may extend through the rings. For each of the ports, a plate may be positioned between the port and the laterally adjacent port. The flowlines may be connected to a downstream component, such as a fluid analysis module, a fluid containment module and/or the like.
Abstract:
A method of forming a downhole seal between inner and outer tubulars. The method including bonding a sealing element to an insert with a bond that bonds at temperatures less than a first temperature and increasingly breaks down at temperatures higher than the first temperature. Defeating the bond between the sealing element and the insert at a second temperature higher than the first temperature; and, subsequently forming a seal between the inner and outer tubulars with the sealing element. Also included is a downhole sealing apparatus.
Abstract:
Systems and related methods are disclosed that involve the use of a magnetic downhole assembly or a magnetic downhole tool. The assembly and tool include a mu-metal sleeve that is operable to isolate a magnetic field and a permanent magnet disposed within the mu-metal sleeve. The assembly and tool also include an actuator that is operable to selectively extend and retract the sleeve to alternatingly expose and shield the permanent magnet. A conveyance is operable to deploy the magnetic downhole assembly and tool to a selected location within a wellbore and a controller is communicatively coupled to the actuator and operable to generate a control signal that causes the actuator to extend or retract the permanent magnet from the mu-metal sleeve.
Abstract:
A fold back ring for a swell packer is disclosed. A swell packer has a support member, a swellable element coupled to the support member, and a fold back ring coupled to the support member and engaging the swellable element. The fold back ring is sized and positioned such that when the swellable element swells, the fold back ring flexes outwardly and is caught between the swellable element and the interior surface of the well. The fold back ring therefore forms a barrier against extrusion of the swellable element.
Abstract:
A dedicated borehole for an ESP or artificial lift mechanism communicates with a sump or wellbore to collect liquids and/or condensate from one or more other bores where there can be laterals into a producing formation. If the ESP or artificial lift mechanism needs to be replaced the dedicated bore with the ESP or artificial lift mechanism can be closed off and the ESP or artificial lift mechanism removed without taking out the main bore or bores connected to the sump or wellbore. Those bores can continue to produce gas as liquids and/or condensate accumulate in the sump, sumps or wellbore. When the ESP or artificial lift mechanism is replaced the liquid can be pumped to surface without interruption of the gas production.
Abstract:
A method of installation of a completion assembly apparatus into a wellbore with a liner hangar packer includes introducing the completion assembly apparatus into the wellbore, where the hybrid sealing assembly couples to the polished bore receiver assembly such that the hybrid sealing assembly is not operable to move laterally within the polished bore receiver assembly, positioning the completion assembly apparatus such that the completion assembly apparatus couples with the liner hangar packer, which establishes fluid communication between the polished bore receiver assembly and a portion of the wellbore downhole from the liner hanger packer, and operating the completion assembly apparatus such that the hybrid sealing assembly decouples from the polished bore receiver assembly such that the hybrid sealing assembly is operable to move laterally within the polished bore receiver assembly. The hybrid sealing assembly includes an unswollen swellable packer operable to swell upon exposure to a swelling material.
Abstract:
A downhole seal device and associated method, the seal device having a support member; first and second end members fixed to opposing ends of the support member; and an outer seal mounted on the support member. The seal device is configured for mounting on a pipeline or other elongate member.
