A method, system and type of database for transmitting data is disclosed in which the data is organized into a structured linear database. The structured linear database includes a routing header portion, a file allocation table, a data portion and a tailbit portion. The structured linear database may be transmitted over any type of network, such as a TM-UWB system or a fiber-optic system. Once the data to be transmitted is identified, a corresponding field is identified in the field allocation table giving the location of the data within the transmission. This field is then referenced by the user to access the specific type of data desired at the given location of the transmission. this process may be repeated enabling data to be stored on transmission lines and accessed at any point at any time providing an always on network.

The algorithm attempts to achieve a constant delay for each packet in frame by taking into account the number of frames residing in the transmit queue, the number of transmit opportunities elapsed between the arrivals of two successive frames in the transmit queue s, as well as the buffering capabilities of both the transmitting and receiving sides. The transmission and retransmission control technique provides for a way of managing the TX and RX buffers with a size that is suitable for the application being used and the underlying transport network. The number of retries is adapted to incoming and outgoing data rate changes in order to provide a fixed delay wireless link transport and maximize effective channel utilization.

A small-sized and lightweight pointing device and receiving unit reduce power consumption. The receiving unit transmits UWB (Ultra Wide Band) signals simultaneously from an antenna thereof. The pointing device receives the transmitted UWB signals with three antennas thereof. The respective timings when the transmitted UWB signals are received with the three antennas depend on the distances between the transmitting antenna and the three receiving antennas. With this principle, propagation distances from the transmitting antenna to the three receiving antennas are real distances between the transmitting antenna and the three receiving antennas. By applying the principle of triangular surveying to the distances, position coordinates of the pointing device to the receiving unit can be specified. Amount of movement made by the pointing device is calculated based on a change in the position coordinates.

Channel characteristics need to be estimated in a wireless communication system which performs frequency hopping. A transmission side aligns phase values of carriers of frequencies used for hopping to known values at a transmission start time and transmits a transmission signal for each hopping obtained by converting frequencies. A reception side aligns phase values of carriers of frequencies used for each hopping at a reception start time and performs frequency conversion for respective reception signals. A phase rotation component contained in the reception signal for each hopping is common to all hoppings. Consequently, the phase rotation component can be included in channel characteristics to be measured for estimation.
